Hi all.

I am reselling my son's old school laptop (he's since upgraded to a Fortnite-capable machine) and I am trying to reset the computer, so the new owner will get a nice fresh laptop without any of my son's data onboard.

I've found tutorials on how to do this (all seems pretty simple) but it fails just after clicking over to 25% complete.

I've tried this several times and it's the same result every time.

I've been following These instructions: Laptop Mag reset instructions

I cannot for the life of me work out what is going wrong and more importantly why.

Help me Geekzone. I implore you.

What sort of laptop is it and did it come with a recovery disk or built-in recovery partition?

Lenovo N22  - very low end Celeron Laptop. No disk and I am not sure if there's a recovery partition...but I'd doubt it. It's verylow end and it appears that the method I am using is the "preferred" method of resetting.

Have a look at https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles_pub/lenovo_n22_ug_en_201604.pdf

Chapter 3 Recovery system (Page 19)

Looks like it does have a recovery and factory reset functions.

Or another option would be to download Windows 10 and create a USB installer, boot from that and wipe the internal storage and reload the latest version of Windows 10.

This is what I had to do to my Lenovo B4130 laptop last year

Or you can download the Windows Recovery Media from Lenovo and copy a Lenovo image onto the laptop instead of a generic Windows install. It does require a valid serial number. Not to sure if you have to register though.

If you want to be kind, please also update the BIOS, the latest release was in Mar-2019.
