every laptop i've ever owned sometimes wakes up to a blank screen. presuming it was fully awoken, running, has programs running etc.

so i just hard reset and reboot.

normally i just do chkdsk and if everything is fine i just don't worry.

is there anything else you'd check for system integrity?

As with all things, it depends

  • If you are a home user / generic office user, you can easily enough be like Jase2985 & move on
  • Do you have any databases running? Check for data consistency & roll backs
  • were you writing code / your thesis / board presentation? I'd double check at least the last section I was working on.

If that ticket comes in they're going to get a "chkdsk C: /f /r"
Then if that's clear an "SFC /scannow" and a "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth".
Then will run Dell Command Update to check for updates.
If there are no BIOS upgrades available, I'll check Dell website directly as DCU sometimes lies.
And using dxdiag check their gfx chip and go to the manufacturers website and download the the right drivers.

If it comes back to me after everything has been done, I would log a job with Dell and request the mobo's replaced.

Not sure if this helps?
