Does anyone know if it is possible to install Windows 7 onto a USB HDD?

I can't spare 16GB for a dual boot on the machine I want to install it on, and want to retain Vista as the main OS.

Yep you sure can install Windows 7 on a USB key. I have my install in VMware, much easier and more managable. There are many tutorials on Google for installing Windows 7 on a USB key or on a virtual machine.
