Hey has anyone tried windows 64bit. I had it running for a while and i didnt have many compatibility issues. I downloaded 64bit drivers off various sites and then got it going. It works really good but not any different from windows xp in my opinion.

The off putting thing for me is it wouldnt work with the latest version of pc suite for my new phone

They dont make OSes to be compatible with phone suites - they make phone suites to be compatible with an OS...

My next OS will be Windows 64 - simply because Exchange Server 2007 will only run on 64 bit CPUs...

Im not stressing on you, just saying that 64bit is newish territory, and most phone suite manufacturers wouldnt be focussed on the performance benefit that 64bit could offer (because their application is probably already lightweight, and any connections to a phone, via say, Bluetooth, are likely to be the slowest point in the chain anyway).

I will go 64bit when one of the following two things happens:

I need 64 bit, or,
64bit is more cost effective than replacing outdated systems with 32bit.

I predict that many will be like me...

True... I had a new desktop built a few months ago, and instead of going 64 bit I decided to stick with Windows XP Pro 32 bit, because of all the different peripherals and devices I need to plug. Driver support is still in its infancy for this OS, albeit improving very quickly, mainly for the mainstream manufacturers (video adapters, disk drive adapters, etc).

Likewise, some of you will remember i asked if anyone was interested in XP x64 drivers for our data cables, and at the time (or to date) noones really expressed an interest. So.. so far we haven't done them.

For the most part I think people are getting x64 capable motherboards, but just dropping the 32bit version of the processor into them for the moment. Makes it a relatively easy upgrade later on if they decide to go x64.

Has nobody tried the 64bit version of vista yet? From what i hear (havent used it myself) it has all the same drivers adn support as the 32bit version.

I have a 64bit system but still running 32bit OSes. Might give Vista Beta2 64bit a try when its released.

funnily enough the old version of pc suite works with 64 bit. The only problem is its not bluetooth compatible.

The crux here is support from Microsoft Product Support Services. MSFT will only be supporting Exchange 2007 on x64, but there will be 32 bit versions of the betas and final release available - so that the product can be tested etc on existing hardware.

A small but maybe important difference :) All is not lost if you don't have 64 bit hardware (its how I'm demoing Exchange "12" beta1 on my 32bit laptop
