Anyone else had issues with chkdsk logs filling up the C: drive?

Ive had this two or three times now. Come back to the machine and there is 0 bytes free on C, chkdsk is running in the background, tracked it down to a 13GB log file produced by chkdsk.

Have "fixed" the issue by killing chkdsk and deleting the log file however this has now happened 3 times, anyone got any ideas of what could be causing it? Or how to properly fix it?

It would be good to find out why CHKDSK is running in the first place.

Could be a good idea to do it on another PC? I had a problem with my laptop's HDD this week, it wouldn't run past CHKDSK on boot. I used an external enclosure to plug it via USB to my Media Center and run CHKDSK there. This fixed the problem once for all.

I thought/assumed that WHS runs chkdsk at set intervals. Would it only be running if there is a problem?

I don't have another windows machine that I can put the drive in :(

You may have a failing HDD. Install the WHS SMART plugin, that will give you some nice ( or in your case, not so nice) stats about the health of your HDD's. I had one HDD in my WHS that was slowly clicking up bad sectors, only the SMART plugin highlighted this. So out of the drive pool it went, pending replacement.

One of the HD's has some bad sectors that have been ticking up over the life of it, the other one that came with the unit has some to but is a bit lower.

They both came with the Acer EasyStore H340, do you think that would be grounds for a warranty replacement? Or would it have to fail completely before they would take it back?

The mere fact that you are getting chkdsk logs etc is certainly grounds for replacement. You would need to check with them regarding this though, policy wise. They may have a HDD utility like western digital do and required to run the utility prior to any warranty claims.
