I was just having a read through this and was reading through the comments and noticed the following.

Can anyone confirm this is the case in NZ?

"everyone that purchase a computer that has windows on it and is going to run a different OS needs to make sure they get their refund for the license of windows--MS is required to refund anyone that asks for the windows shipped on a computer if you are not going to use it. . . . I'll be sticking with Linux. "

I believe that is law in the European Union. Don't bother trying that here, it is not like we'll enact any laws which upset large international corporations any time soon.

Have heard of this being possible but have never done it, thing is when you buy a computer from the likes of dell, hp etc then the windows license is usually only worth about $20-$30.

I think you will find when setting up windows if you don't accept the license agreement then options come up explaining how to get a refund.

can you buy a macbook without an apple OS license? or order a refund from Apple? if not then this would be somewhat discriminatory
