Which means sometime in Q1 2007 for consumers in general. A little before this for enterprise and MSDN subscribers.

Microsoft is preparing the upgrade voucher for those that who are buying new pc over the holiday period which you will get Windows XP for now, then when Vista is out, you can exchange the voucher for Vista Upgrade.

I too am stucked on this as I would like to get UMPC with Vista preinstalled if all possible, or at least a free upgrade to Vista when it is out.

Let me guess, off-the-shelf Vista will have an insane price tag won't it?

Yes Vista Ultimate will be around $700, which isn'y too bad considering XP Pro was the same price 5 years ago. So in real terms it will be cheaper than XP Pro

In real terms how will it be cheaper?

If the price is nominally the same as it was five years ago, then the price today is cheaper once you adjust for inflation.

Considering many people will need bigger HDD's and more RAM to run Vista I can see a big rush on OEM versions! :-)

Yes exactly... Geez Tony how could you miss the obvious ... inflation. Over the last 5 years inflation could be as much as 10-15%

The cost of the hardware required to run Vista is great than the cost of the hardware required to run XP though...

No, because XP at the time it was released required hardware that cost the equivilent of what Vistas requirements are. Its all relative
