It has been a while since I installed Libre Office.

Libre Office 3.5 for OSX Intel - does it come with Java JRE as part of the install?

I would prefer to keep Java off my machine. Writer is the only component I will be using and that is all good without Java.

Sometime later I installed 3.6.5 and now 4.0.0. Java is not provided as part of the installation package. That answers my question.

After installation let Libre Office know you do not want to use a Java environment. Otherwise you will see messages at inconvenient times advising that you do not have Java installed. Also on recent OSX systems Apple will prompt for install.

Libre Office > Preferences > Advanced > Java Options > "Use a java runtime environment" [Disable].

Happy Libre Office-ing!
