Greetings

have just found some RAM that is Mac compatible

Corsair 1Gb DDR2-667 SoDimm for Apple Mac for my iMac Intel 20" Core Duo

and am wondering if anyone is/has used it?? Being Corsair I understand this ram to be of very very good quality but have only ever been using Kingston RAM as recommended from Renaissance.

Your thoughts and answer will be much appreciated

Thanks

Thanks Shaun

http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
your iMac will have two slots with two 512MB SO-DIMM modules in them according to the above website and I don't see why that RAM wouldn't work :-)

It doesn't matter what brand anyone "recommends", only that it's of a reasonable quality and conforms to the required specifications. As long as it's the correct interface (DDR2 200-pin SODIMM), speed (667Mhz/PC2-5300), and capacity (512Mb/1Gb etc), then it'll work.

From memory I've got Hitachi or some other equally unusual brand in my Mac Mini (2Gb) and it works beautifully. Cost about half what it would if I'd bought anything "official".

Ascent have 1Gb sticks of SODIMM-667 for around $150. You'll want to buy pairs so the RAM will function in dual-channel mode though.

Check this out:

Corsair: http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=352338
Kingston: http://www.ascent.co.nz/productspecification.aspx?ItemID=347956

You can pay around $300 for much the same thing from the likes of Corsair if you want a lifetime warranty and marginally (in the realm of 1%) improved performance.

They have A-Data 1Gb sticks for $135, but I'm a bit questionable as to the reliability of A-Data products (I've had problems in the past). They've also got Geil sticks for $150 which should be reliable.

You could probably shop around on www.pricespy.co.nz and find even cheaper prices, most of the places that'll come up with though don't accept credit cards though.

Ascent have some great pricing, and a little extra for a 36 month warranty is not at all bad either.
