I have a file server (Windows 7 Enterprise, running regular Windows shared folders) in my hall cupboard serving up media to my Raspberry Pi (Raspbmc) in the lounge. I also access the shared folders from my Mac from time to time.

I've noticed since installing Mavericks that if I access a shared folder on the Mac, e.g. while I'm watching a TV show on the Mac in the kitchen and cooking dinner (common use case), and then go back to the lounge and attempt to access a folder in XBMC, the shared folders become unavailable on XBMC. I get a timeout error, then another one that says the path is invalid.

If I reboot the Pi it doesn't resolve it, but if I reboot Windows it does resolve it.

I've been able to reproduce this 3 times now. Anyone else having an issue with accessing shared folders among multiple devices? I wonder if this is related to the SMB2 implementation on Mavericks having trouble with accessing SMB1 shares on Windows Server 2008 R2? Though it can access the shares just fine if it's the only device accessing them.

Try using this and see if you get the same problem,

If the problem goes away by using mavericks cifs implementation, then I think it is safe to say that the buggy SMB2 is your problem,

Good call, I'll modify the shortcuts tonight and see if it allows me to access the shares concurrently.

Yes Mavericks is buggy with SMB and WebDav shares. I can't use either at work. However the CIFS connection does work, but then breaks my connection to the Intranet, hosted on the same server. I can't successfully connect to the server using webdav, https://server/share though. On 10.8.5 it worked perfectly. I've been sending bug reports to Apple and they are well aware of the problem. However this has been a problem since the beta 1 so I'm not sure who does their quality control on software but...

Google OSX Mavericks SMB problem and see how many hits come up now.

Yep the weird thing with my situation is I have no problem at all accessing the shares. In fact everything performs normally and admirably. All it does is breaks the ability for my XBMC to access the shares once my Mac is concurrently connected.

We moved to Ireland on the day you posted this. Have re-set up our network with the AEBS running network shares as a bridge under a BT home hub 5.

I have the same problem accessing the shares on the network. I can access them on the macbook, but when trying to access them through xbmc on the apple tv it fails. Also fails when trying to use the new Infuse app.

Right have it working, but not sure what fixed it (and not sure how long it will work for!)

Have reset the airport extreme. It is now running with a disk password, but is running with the username and password I had put in previously when sharing by account (which should have ben erased when it was reset)...

This formula I then applied to XBMC, but couldn't add via zeroconf, so had to manually add my airport extreme as an SMB share.
