My Mac Pro starts up but stays In white screen comes up with progress bar does move at all then disappears and it's just the spinning wheel and logo left on my screen.

Can anyone help me fix this?. Don't want to take it into the shop cause it'll cost an arm to get it fix.

Have you tried to reset the PRAM, Cmd P-R?

Also try booting in Verbose mode Cmd -V, and see where it hangs ?

If it has a optical drive will it boot from an install disc?

as a last resort, do you have another mac around, if so see if the pro will boot in Target mode, at least then you shoudl be able to get yoru data off.

can you get it to boot in Single use mode?

if not, it sounds like the HDD might have died/corrupted itself

What happens when you run fsck ?, I assume it gives you back the "system modified" error,

if so see here

"***** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED *****

If you see the second message, you should repeat the fsck command again. Continue to repeat the command until you see the “volume xxx appears to be OK” message.

If you don’t see the volume OK message after five or more attempts, your hard drive has serious problems that it may not be able to recover from."

I am hoping this isn't the case. Is there anyway around getting this sorted? or how much will I be looking at fixing it if I was to take it in?. Really appreciate the help thank you.

Do you know what OS X was on there? If you do I might be able to create a boot usb to see if the hard drive is dead and if the data can be recovered.
Im in North Auckland but work in CBD so I could drop by on wednesday, or I have thursday off work so could have a look then?
