OSX - how to put a shortcut to system preferences > network on the menu bar?

This is the closest to a shortcut I can find.

New feature in 10.10 which is kinda on topic, if you hold alt while pressing the wifi icon it shows you your wifi stats, very handy.

Only just started using it but always assumed it was there.

^yeah that's been around for years

Why use a menubar shortcut when you can just use spotlight?

CMD+Space then type Network

You can also hold alt on the battery percentage for the condition.

Yep and you can hold alt/option when clicking the Notification Centre icon to turn Do Not Disturb on/off.  And on Bluetooth to get diagnostic reports.  And on Volume to see AirPlay speakers or choose alternate microphones.

....you get the idea :)

By the way here is how to do what you've originally asked, well almost anyway.

Go to System>Library>PreferencePanes> and drag the network icon to your Dock.

That's about the best you can do....and you can only drag it to the right side of the dock where custom folders go (next to the Trash)

Excellent thank you. The spotlight suggestion was useful also.

By the way, if you already have System Preferences on the Dock you can right click on the icon to bring up a list of all the preference panes as well, and just select the one you want directly from there.
