My copy of Office 2008 has arrived!!

Briefly:

- It's significantly faster. Entourage no longer feels like I'm wading through porridge when using it.

- Word "feels" like a proper mac application (the button bar is gone)

- Downsides: When editing appointment details, there is still a bug with entering times in the spin boxes.

- Major issue: When editing the detail of an appointment, it seems that the appointment will be randomly reassigned a date and occasionally also change the length of the appointment (this is actually a serious disappointment for me) ... I'm yet to file and talk to Microsoft about this one.

I've finally solved the bug with Entourage - Microsoft appear to be using the medium date format, and appending the day of the week to that. Once you go to save the appointment, Entourage can't work out what date is being meant ...

Otherwise - I like the new look, for a Microsoft application running on a Mac, it still feels like a Mac application.

Entourage is streets ahead of the previous version - it runs a lot, lot smoother. Excel, it loads, I haven't seen anything major - it's still quicker than the previous version.

I bought some work home the other night (Word documents) - and one of the documents caused Word to crash regularly. (not an overly complicated document, but does utilise the track changes feature (which seems as though you can't turn off on the Mac version if you turned it on under windows)

Once the first or second round of service packs/ bug fixes (given the state of the bugs, I'd be tempted to say the second) - Office should retain a stake in the "Office Suite" for the Mac.

... If Microsoft don't get things fixed, then I've already spoken to a few iWork Converts ...

Even though I have not used the latest version of office yet the main problem I have run into is users having it on their home pc and then making a document and emailing it to work in docx format.
The last person I got with this problem compained as I told him when he is home next he will have to save the files as doc format and email them again.
He just got told the same thing by the supervisor.

We currently don't support and they all say we should, this would not be a problem if we were running world 2000/XP/2003 but some drongo decided that Star office would save the company money so that is what we run.
Everyone in IT says though that the cost that has gone into converting files and teaching people how to use Star Office has totally outweighted the cost of keeping MS office.
