My partner is about to replace her 2015 macbook pro with a new one.  She wants the 16" version, and probably the 512GB version is fine rather than the 1TB version.

Where is the best place to buy one?   Most places have the same price, which matches buying from Apple directly.

JBHI seems to be ~$100 cheaper.

But perhaps people have experiences in other stores where you can get free add ons or similar which sweeten the deal.

Not confident such a thing exists, but seeing as we're dropping $4k I figured i'd ask.

Apple - apple.co.nz especially if you are going to customise it as it’s faster and they provide accurate status and good shipping as well as warranty etc. Purchased many from them without any problems.

Lots of news regarding the new Pro’s to be announced, incorporating the M1X or M2 chip. My experience with the M1 is that it is light years better than the Intel chip. I would consider the current 16 to be obsolete, even before the release of the new one later in the year.

JB Hifi occasionally have 10% discounts across all Macs, so that will get you the best deal. If you're paying full price then Apple.co.nz is your best option because you can be reasonably sure that they will have stock of the particular model variant and accessories that you want.

The comment above about the new model cycle is worth reiterating. I would not recommend buying any Intel based Mac at the moment if you can possibly wait.

$3669 if you can get access to education store prices. I'm using UNiDAYS.

Free shipping. 0% interest for 6, 12 or 24 months. Min. spend applies.

Even if you don't want the new Apple silicon MacBook, it's worth waiting if you can. The current model prices usually drop quite a bit after a new model is announced...

Thanks for the tip re waiting.

Any ideas when it will be released, and do they normally cost more?

There are rumours it might be announced in a couple of days at WWDC... 🤞

Normally they are priced the same as the model they replace, or close to it.

Best guess is announced next week, available 4-6 weeks thereafter, same pricing as now, 2x the performance at least.

The Macrumors Buyers Guide is an excellent resource. Currently shows the 16 inch MBP as a solid "Don't Buy". 570 Days since last update and WWDC is on Tuesday, fairly likely new models will be announced.

Cheers,
Joseph

When I got mine I opted for a refurbed one from apple. For the amount of money I was prepared to pay I got the extra storage and higher end graphics.

I felt refurb was fine as any issues it had had been fixed.

Saved me about 1k and got a better machine.

Perhaps wait until the new M2 iMac pro's come out.

Either way I would go through apple I have purchased all my stuff through them and its so easy and turns up the next day.

I'm in the same boat - looking to replace my 2014 model but my eyes watered at seeing the latest prices. Back in the day I got 10% off at Noels which made it quite attractive.

As others have suggested, at least wait for the 16in M1/M2 refresh. Could be next Tuesday, or end of the year? I suspect pricing will stay the same.
