well, after an upgrade from 10.4 and much pissing about, i can only connect to my office LAN via 100baseTX HALF DUPLEX.

Apparently this is a known bug with the new OS and my model's network card (which looks to be on-board, after taking half the machine apart to get to it...)

Here's what i found out so far: http://www.small-tree.com/gigabit-ethernet-driver-download-a/198.htm however it only applies to removable cards.

This is a massive oversight, i feel. This wee I bought a brand new iPod nano straight out of the loading truck the day they were released (well, almost, it was on the shelf for about a minute) and by the time i get back to my office there's already an upgrade for it's software: yet 10.6 has been out for weeks now and theres no update patch to fix this.

I can download from the internet faster than i can move files across the work LAN.

Hopefully the people at rennaisance have some help to offer, just thought i'd share my tale of woe. Will update as things progress.

OSX 10.6 was available from the 28th Aug so it's 18 days old.
OSX 10.6.1 is already available for download.
Not a good idea update your computer until you know everything you need will work or at least have good enough backups to go back to your previous OS and wait until the updates you need are available.

You jumped from 10.4 Tiger to 10.6 Snow Leopard missing out 10.5 Leopard so obviously you have one of the first Intel Macs nearing 3 years old ~ you're lucky it's not a PPC Mac. :)

Touche. All fair comments, and i have updated to 10.6.1: but i'd still think once the issue was known they'd jump on it.

...maybe its a signal i need to get the office to upgrade me :)

was the link i meant to refer to, btw.

fingers crossed for 10.6.2 in the near future... i've had to roll back to 10.4.11 in the meantime.

as an update to this: i re-installed snow leopard, then used a program called Cocktail to hard set the LAN to full duplex HW loopback (an option not available in the native system panel)

all works fine, drama over.... phew :)
