not sure if i have the right forum, would love some suggestions as i know nothing about macs. my son uses a mac. for the past week hes been having this prob. we've had no probs until now -


"  The wireless router goes in and out of range in conjunction
with the wireless airport. It will travel up and down in wireless strength
untill it craps out. Then when you try and reconnect it will say there was an

Hi - what version of OS X is your son running? (You can get this by going to the apple menu and choosing "About this Mac"

The version is the line directly below the "Mac OS X" in big, bold black lettering.

I did have this problem with one of the versions of OS X 10.5 (at least, I noticed it after an upgrade.)

What is the Mac in use? Mac Mini, iMac or MacBook (pro)?

Have you recently moved either the wireless access point or the machine?

After upgrading to Snow Leopard (10.6) I still occasionally had the problem ... my problem I sourced due to an item being placed on top of the mac mini - this was blocking the antenna.

I've also read that this can be an indication that the wireless card in the mac is on the way out.

Hope that begins to help shed some light on the problem ...

Its a macbook

No not changed anything. Other laptops are able to access the router in the house.

Had this sort of problem on and off for ages over 2 or 3 houses. There have been 2 solutions in my experience. Using an airport (ie sticking to apple devices) seems to make things more stable. Buying an airport (but it sounds like you already have one) has made things way faster and way better than just using a standard adsl modem with built in wireless router. No logic here, but it worked!
The most recent problems were solved by doing a firmware update on airport and resetting up -basically making a whole new wireless network.
There is a fair chance you have tried both these options... Just my 2c.

My son just today took it in to be looked at. Guy said it was a software problem for sure.
