Hey all,

I am looking at buying a new 13" Early 2011 MacBook Pro. I'm just wondering if anybody else on here has purchased one of these and what their thoughts are on this. I've heard a few people saying about the fan being quite noisy, and also them locking up on occasion. From what I can tell, this was resolved by a system update.

Thoughts?

Cody

To my knowledge, the performance is fine, but replacing the stock hard drive to either a SSD or hybrid drive helps immensely.

Dunnersfella: a SSD or hybrid drive helps immensely.

How so? Just during start-up times, or during actual, real world use.
If its beneficial all the time, I might go for the 128 GB MacBook Air...

I can't comment specifically on the latest model but my late 2009 Macbook Pro is dead quiet. It appears to use convection rather than an exhaust fan to extract heat from its interior and I'd be surprised if they've changed the design as it's actually quite clever.

I have one of the new machines. No random freezes and it's not noisy unless I start gaming on it. It's been great so far :)

Edit: I'm using the standard 750 GB hard drive. There's no way that I could go with an SSD; I need my space!

Bought the GF one, with an Optibay for the 320GB HDD and a Vertex 2 SSD for boot. She loves it, the Intel HD 3000 IGP runs WoW faster than her previous 9400m-based 2009 MBP.

My 2.2GHz 15" with the Radeon 6750 should be here Wednesday, I like the extra screen real estate.

I'm quoting my own post here but I've had the machine for a bit longer now. I did start having the "random freeze" issue but it was resolved with a software update. The biggest issue at the moment is that the AirPort card has fluctuating latency; it can jump from 5 to 205 ms in the space of a second...
