Hey Guys,

Got a New Macbook Pro and its configuration is really good. Its running a quad core i7 with HT effectively 8 processors with 4 GB RAM on it.

Has anyone noticed any heating issues with the MacBook Pro?

I was using it on my lap and the other day within 30 mins its really got HOT and i had to take it and place it on a table.

Just wondering if this is an Issue or is it just me. Also are there any ways in which we can solve or get rid of this issue / problems?

Thoughts n comment are most welcome and appreciated.

They run hot, it's just how it is....especially if discrete graphics are enabled.

That's a bit weird - my old one used to run fairly hot but not my new i7 Quad Core. It runs a bit warm but not so bad that I need to take it off my person. What were you using it for at the time? Was the fan whirring away, or CPU usage up?

The Fan doesn't make any sounds as such. The performance too is great. Its just that it tends to heat up and you cant keep it on your lap for a long time.

Just wondering if it could be the 4 cores that could be causing this?

I'm sure Apple released an upgrade (firmware?) last week? to fix certain issues including screen artifacts and overheating. Might want to try look on their website.

It is a bit weird though - mine never overheated even before the firmware update. I used it quite heavily with Win7 VM running at the same time too. Admittedly nothing GPU heavy. That's why I asked what you were running at the time - not so much to see if performance was still good, but how much load you were placing on the CPU/GPU.

The firmware update is definitely worth a try though - just run Software Update if you haven't received any notifications yet.

It gets heated up generally...whether the usage is heavy or lite.....With the updates all have been applied so far that it available from apple.

Its just bizarre...

Install iStat Pro or Menu's and that way you can check the temp of each component individually. But it's generally the CPU or GPU that causes a big heat up. I've had 4 MBP's over the last 3 years now and generally all of them have been a lot hotter than you would expect. Mainly when doing intensive stuff (gaming/graphics/video/etc). This is why there is a whole market for laptop cooling and cushions nowadays.
