Folks, I have a few Microsoft goodies I picked up last week in Auckland and will give away to those who complete some "challenges".

Here is a list of prizes:

  • 1st prize:

    • Microsoft Sculp Comfort keyboard/mouse set
    • Introduction to Windows Server 2012
    • Headpods Bluetooth headphones
    • USB spare battery charger
  • 2nd prize:

    • Microsoft Wireless 800 keyboard/mouse set
    • Introduction to Windows Server 2012
    • Headpods Bluetooth headphones
    • USB spare battery charger
  • 3rd/4th prizes:

    • Microsoft Wireless 800 keyboard/mouse set
    • USB spare battery charger
  • 5th prize:

    • USB spare battery charger
Here are the challenges. Each one is an entry to the competition. You don't need to "complete" the challenges (just get to the point where you can take the screenshots) but if you complete the better.

Microsoft Virtual Academy Storage Challenge

  1. Navigate to http://bit.ly/mvaws2012r2storage
  2. Add this course to your learning plan
  3. Watch the Storage Overview video from Module 1
  4. Download the PowerPoint from Module 1
  5. Show screenshot with completion and name – will be 8% or higher after first two activities

Windows Storage Infrastructure Challenge (the whole hands-on-lab will take 60 minutes, but it will only take you 10 minutes or less to get to the bit where you need to capture and send in the screenshot)

  1. Navigate to http://bit.ly/ws2012r2eval
  2. Choose "Windows Server 2012 R2 Datacenter Virtual Lab" from "select version" dropdown
  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account (aka Live Id)
  4. Confirm profile
  5. Select, launch, "Lab 2: Windows Server 2012 R2 – Storage Infrastructure"
  6. Working through the lab, send a screenshot from Exercise 1: Building an Optimized File Server, “Create a tiered volume with deduplication” step 10 (should look like below). Make sure to capture the info in the bottom right corner where it says TPAHost###

Now, some important things to consider: YOU MUST TAKE SCREENSHOTS. PLEASE UPLOAD THE IMAGES TO GEEKZONE. BE CONSIDERATE AND CROP/RESIZE DOWN TO 560 PIXELS WIDE SHOWING ONLY THE REQUIRED INFORMATION (e.g. make sure the second challenge screenshot shows the bottom right corner with the TPAHost### and cut the rest of the screen to make it fit). If I can't see the information I need I won't be going to other image sites looking for the image.

The challenges can be completed separate (i.e. you can have two replies, one for each challenge and it will be counted as two entries). I will close the thread 2nd May 2014 so you must complete the challenges by them. If you complete these challenges and keep evidence (screenshots) I am told you can enter the Technet newsletter competitions coming later next month - and be into win bigger X prizes, if you know what I mean ;)

Tried the second one but could for the life of me get it to populate the pools under drives so did the first one.

Maybe missed checking the "create storage tiers" checkbox when creating the virtual disk?

If you upload the full size screenshot you took and post the smaller size one GZ offers you presumably freitasm can easily view the original. I doubt you need to make a third like the above.
