Media reports of an apparently lone terrorist stabbing police officer and driving into crowds. Four dead and many injured. Westminster in lockdown.

Sad but inevitable I am afraid. The Enemy Within.

At least they were properly equipped and ready to deal with it - although, after living under terrorist threat for most of the last 40 years of one sort or another - you would have to hope that would be the case.

The day before, it was announced that laptops and iPads would be banned from cabin luggage on flights between London and the Middle East in relation to additional threat.

As far as "terrorist attacks" go its only the location of it that has made it newsworthy. Driving into a crowd of pedestrians, then sticking a knife in a few people is not really an organized terror attack. Its central London - you could sneeze on the tube and kill more than 4 people. It sounds more like a lone crazy to me.

Your comment would add Catholics to the list if you take IRA into consideration?

BBC hasn't yet stated they know the religion of the attacker or the motivation for the attack.

Be very careful before you make assumptiions - look at the quebec mosque shooting where Trump started ranting about muslim terrorists before it turned out the attacker was a white christian

From the Daily Telegraph

Isil supporters have cheered the attack on Westminster, suggesting it was “revenge” for the UK’s airstrikes on the terror group in Syria and Iraq.

Followers on pro-Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant channels on the social media service Telegram posted messages applauding the knife-wielding suspect and called the attack “blessed”.

One said the UK was paying “blood for blood” for its involvement in the US-led coalition’s campaign against the jihadists.

“Our battle on your land is only just beginning,” read one poster next to a photoshopped image of Big Ben being blown up.

Exactly. Way over hyped IMO. All it's caused for me is panicked family back in NZ. I was in Covent Garden at the time, and apart from more choppers it was London business as usual. The media loves a good terrorism on the west story.

I agree. Before 9/11, and the London tube and bus bombings (which I do consider terror attacks)  this probably wouldn't have been called a 'terrorist attack', but something like 'a mad man causes carnage'. But that wouldn't have got the clicks and headlines as much as a 'terrorist attack'. Stuffs webpage has videos with scary sounding music http://www.stuff.co.nz/world/europe/90758932/london-terror-attack-terrorism-the-city-feared-was-coming , which only causes panic.

I notice that near the end of the story it even says 'At the time of writing this is not a confirmed terror attack', so the media shouldn't even be referring to it as that.

But still obviously very bad what has happened.

Yes a sad situation.

Just to correct a common misnomer, despite the religious titles, the Northern Ireland situation wasn't about religion, it was about Foreign occupation of Ireland. Even if your not good with history, this is evident in the fact that a political solution is what was needed to bring peace in Ireland, not a religious solution. It just so happens that religious titles were handy back in the olden days when everyone was religious and religion and the state weren't properly segregated. Protestant was the national denomination of the occupiers and Catholic was the national denomination of occupied. The two denominations coexisted peacefully everywhere else in the UK and in the modern world.

Clearly your bias has distorted your recollection of events. He made no such rant - indeed he was criticised for his silence and not offering condolences to unaffected people by those attempting to play the Muslim victim card on their behalf.

I think you are partly correct to a certain extent. Terrorism or not, the media plays a huge role in spreading fear (and that is the desired terrorist outcome). Whilst I can accept that for the majority of people it is business as usual, for many it is not. Consider the conversations I have been having with my wife 36 hours ago as news started to develop of inflight restrictions through aircraft originating in the middle east, bearing in mind I am on a flight to the UK via Doha on Saturday for my dear Mums funeral. Easily explained away by myself as extra caution due to a "perceived" raised awareness of a potential threat. No problem I say.

Now imagine her thoughts and raised concerns after waking up to the news of what has happened in London overnight. Certainly not business as usual.

I for one can't wait to get off that plane, and into a Worcestershire village for Mums funeral. More importantly, I can't wait to get back here to NZ the week after as this is where my wife, kids and I choose to live. My wife's concerns over my trip are quite real and I for one feel a little uneasy. So, location makes it newsworthy? Overhyped? Possibly, but it has its desired outcome in ways that we don't imagine - terrorism related or not.

Your right. It was Sean spicer, Trunps press secretary who speaks on behalf of him.
