What is peoples opinions on these? I've been asked to do one as a result of a burglary.

I think they were introduced when I was overseas so I missed any debate that happened at the time.

My initial reaction is that I'm not keen on the idea.

I understand that the idea is to allow victims feel like they have a say in the process.

But I also like the idea that justice is blind. Should the sentence be different if I'm able to write an articulate emotional letter compared with someone who can't.

I'd rather them be worked to death in a frigid alpine environment constructing roads or railways. Seems fitting with world war times.

Seriously though, prison sentences aren't about prevention. They're about punishment.

I can only assume what a Johnson is but its probably a term used before my existence..
But that gave me a thought!
Each prisoner has 1 year to figure out what they are going to do in the "Darwin Contest" to be rewarded the "Darwins Award"

I would propose a state funded monetary incentive for voluntary vasectomy or tubal ligation. It would look expensive short term but would pay for itself in 20 years.

Victim impact statements are for the judge. The judge is interested in the impact on the victim and take this impact into account when sentencing.

Victim impact statements and restorative justice are two different things. This thread is getting those two confused.

A bit harsh, but you are meaning punishment and not a free lifestyle on us. Id like 6 10 hour days working in the community for free. Lots of jobs there to save councils money

and to give something back to the population who have rights and they got abused.
