NZ Herald censored Rachel Stewart's opinion piece, printed here...

https://speakupforwomen.nz/the-rachel-stewart-column/

I believe Rachel Stewart has quit writing for the Herald too.

Herald can censor anything they see fit, but is this really such an odious piece of writing deserving of censorship?

Oh well, goodbye Herald.

The NZ Herald seems to have a particularly strong bias when it comes to gender issues. I've seen them removing Facebook posts simply because they didn't use the preferred pronoun of the subject. I'm not surprised they wouldn't publish an article that even hinted there are people in the world who don't think someone can be exactly who they want to be.

In fact the NZHerald previously published an article from the same regular columnist on the same topic. This one:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12166957

The article attracted a complaint to the media council industry body. Some aspects of that complaint were upheld by the media council. NZHerald added that information to the article above. Based on that, there's probably a little more to the circumstances

Thanks for that. In that case the part of the complaint that was upheld related to speculation of financial motivation, not the gender issues, even though they were also the subject of complaint.

Good on you. My kids know they will get zero parental support if they decide to go to Massey University. Another organisation into censorship

The Herald stopped carrying the Alex cartoon because it portrayed a transgendered character negatively in a strip ("Alex" consistently portrays nearly all characters negatively).
