A recipe calls for tomato powder. I assumed it would be with the paprika etc. at Countdown but after scrutinising the aisle slowly I couldn't find any. Then I had a thought: I'd check Countdown's site for it and see what the packaging looks like. But nope, Countdown's site refuses to search for it, instead giving me 633 hits for anything containing "tomato" or "powder".

Decided on chicken tenderloins for lunch. PacnSave had tenderloins for $18.49kg the chicken breasts were $12.49

Without looking hard at the pack I brought the tenderloins home to find they were mainly chicken breasts that were cut in strips, quite obvious to anyone who has skinned and cut a chicken breast off the bone umpteen times before.

The tenderloin is the soft strip that runs underneath the chicken breast and is loosely stuck to the under breast and the bone. It’s very soft and moist and doesn’t have an obvious grain like the breast has, nor does it have that thin line of white fat often seen on the middle of the breast and the diagonal grain. My 'tenderloins' were cut from the top of the breast some bits had that centre line and grain, so caveat emptor and check the package carefully.

I’m not going to say this is a nice little rort to gain $6 more per kg for a $12.49 product.

Maybe it was a pack that should have been labelled "Stirfry". Cockup usually trumps conspiracy.

It should just be a string in a database. They presumably know which partner they gave it to!

Like courier that have “picked up by courier driver. In transit.”

Until the moment it arrives at your house.

I want to see this level of detail:

1510 - picked up by driver
1630 - sorted to Bin 23, Auckland East facility
0600 - transferred to truck 126A
1800 - arrived Wellington North facility, Bin 009
0400 - transferred to vehicle 226C
0900 - arrived Masterton depot, Bin 44
0950 - out for delivery
1044 - delivered

Because "We gave it to Billy to hand to someone he sits next to on the bus going in more or less the right direction with instructions to hand it on to someone else going a bit further down the line in the hope that it eventually gets there" won't fit into the description field.

Also Billy isn't really sure of the name of the passenger he handed it to (it might be Ralph) so we just went with "partner carrier".

And of course, at 8.30 this morning, the day after moaning, the parcel in question arrived. NZ Couriers this time. Think I'll moan about their tracking now. Why can NZ Post just have enter tracking number, while NZ Couriers have courier tickets / packs, customer printed labels, charge labels, international consignments, etc etc, non of which found my tracking number.

What annoys me? Lack of service and care at some supermarkets.

I spent >$300 at Countdown last night and handed the bags over to the checkout operator prior to filling the conveyor belt.

The bags got pushed to the end of the counter, where my goods were simply piled on top of them. While I was trying to feverishly fill bags and load them into the trolley, the checkout operator just kept on piling the remaining goods on top of each other and the bags.

By the time I'd gotten to the end of the ordeal, I paid the Countdown premium for my groceries and took them home.

Upon unpacking them, I discovered that the crackers I'd just bought were smashed, various other things were in less-than-perfect condition (despite that fact that I had picked up goods in perfect condition off the shelves) and the experience was an overwhelmingly negative one.

Pak n Save would've been  abetter experience, I think...at least they pack your trolley as they go.

That's disgusting attitude on their part. Our local countdown happily pack for you. I usually do the packing myself anyway, so the checkout operator can just carry on scanning items through. They're usually rather thankful for the assist and say so. If nothing else, it means we get out of there faster. Not all Countdown stores are the same, but your experience sure would put me off shopping at that store!

It does largely come down to the individual serving you, but when there's a premium paid for their service (yes, they are more expensive than PnS), then I'd expect to get a little more "service".

I know I am not paying extra for my groceries due to the hourly rates these people are being paid, as they are only paying minimum pay for starters and minor increases as they progress, but the sheer lack of care from this particular individual really hurts when I have paid so much.

I was moments away from turning right instead of left and going to PnS. I should've gone with my gut.

I'm convinced that my local Countdown employs someone to squeeze all packs of chips and break them before they go on the shelves.

We don't buy chips but fresh, bagged bread always gets squeezed out its rectangular cross-section if we don't ensure it's protected during checkout.
