freitasm: "This is fascism. I waited for a couple of years for fascism to show up."
Seriously? Only a couple of years?
Sorry, I can't take those seriously.

Heres something you can take seriously: the handing out of leaflets, using a megaphone, as well as having a peaceful protest all require a license, apparently due to council bylaws. Obviously, you support the constant increase in taxations, selling out to international bankers and increased national debt... ;)
How much longer before we need an Internet license? You do realize that we live in an, effectively, dictatorship. Labour or Nation, two sides of the same coin. Nothing will change for the better for as long as this continues.

This is my personal bugbear too - just because you need a license for a protest - and I am assuming that you mean one of these:

does not make NZ a fascist state. Perhaps you Should read Rodger Eatwells excellent book (oddly entitled 'Fascism' which was my third year text) and look at governments during the hey day of fascism such as those in Austria (Before Anschluss), Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia, Italy and Germany as well as looking at the parties that never made it in to power such as the British Union of Fascists or the PPF in france (not to mention the puppet states set up during the war)
By slinging the word around as you do you use it in such a way as to make it devoid of meaning. Unlike communism, Fascism has no rigid manifesto (fascists always believed that it had a form of dynamism) though it is often strongly rooted in extreme nationalism boarding almost on Romanitism (such as Italy and Germany). It can be Racist (such as Germany, Hungary, Romania, Sloviena), it will often have a focus on the military and security usually resulting in the establishment of a secret police force (much like Communism). The press is tightly controlled and dissent is not tolerated (you would not be protesting against the government - permit or not - in say Mussolini's Italy, or Hitlers Germany , members of the white rose were executed by beheading and I am reasonably sure that you still have yours). Facisim places a focus on mass movements such as KdF - while the closest we have here seems to be the All Blacks (which I am free to support or not as I see fit).
If it all sounds a little to much then you shouldn't be using the word.

freitasm: "Police State"?
Goodness. People reading this must think we live in Hell.
ScottStevensNZ: Using 'police state' tends to open your argument up to even more falicies. Police State tends to imply an government on the Authoritarian to Totalitarian spectrum be they Stalinist, Communist, Fascist or Religious. So what exactly are you attempting to do?
