rb99:

Selected lyrics from one of the great songs of our time (well, early 80s anyway) -

Take your baby by the hand
And make her do a high hand stand
And take your baby by the heel
And do the next thing that you feel

Take your baby by the hair
And pull her close and there, there, there
And take your baby by the ears
And play upon her darkest fears

Take your baby by the wrist
And in her mouth, an amethyst...

Someone's preparing for Valentines Day on Sunday.

Its Valentine's Day on Sunday ? I hadn't realised....

Believe it or not, they played it on local radio this morning at 8.14am after I listened to the news at 8.00 and then spent the next 14 minutes listening to interminable adverts and waffling till they actually played an actual song, so i listened extra carefully. Maybe that comes under the 'things that annoy you' thread.

And Valentines Day is an invention of the petty bourgeoisie to oppress the working classes and has no part in a modern society, and come the revolution...

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.” -John Kenneth Galbraith

Handle9: A certain MP issuing a press release about dropping standards. His press release had grammatical errors.

What is remarkable about that? Every single written document produced in New Zealand has grammatical errors.

It amused me. I can't see the point of your comment.

Reading this article about the Waikato Police being first to get the new mufti vehicle....being a Holden Equinox.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/124235068/waikato-polices-notsosecret-weapon-against-speeders

Funny thing is one of them pulled someone over opposite my place in Christchurch 11 days ago!

I made the comment of nice mufti vehicle.... the red and blue lights on the body are not even noticeable when off!

(And they have Mag wheels these days too - no giving one away by wearing steel wheels like the old days!)

I still prefer the Porsche 911s of the Autobahn police with visible markings. ;-)

I lost my phone in the desert last night when I was digging a friends car out. I only realised when I got home last night. I couldn't find it on find my device and I realised it might have fallen out of my pocket and gotten buried.

I went back this morning with a rake and found it in 5 minutes. For bonus points we didn't get stuck.

You know, I was really expecting this dream sequence, digging a car out of the desert in the middle of the night, to continue with...

I remember saying something like "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should dig...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was buried in the desert outside Las Vegas, and a voice was screaming: "Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?"

Having lived in Sweden in winter where apartments had triple glazing and were fully heated and cosy, nothing gave me more joy than watching heavy snow falling and walking in it. The locals mostly hated it but I thought it was quite magical.

It's a winter wonderland here as well. High of 26 and no rain since October....

I lived in Switzerland for a winter. Yes, I really loved the snow at Xmas. However, by Easter I had come round to the locals' view of it.
