Ep 1 of the latest season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix NZ.

Pretty much a continuation of where we were at before, so no change...slow and a bit meh, but I'll watch it to its conclusion.

Netflix adults-only quirky Japanese anime: Dorohedoro

I'm enjoying this series.

One of the strangest intros, plotlines ever

Space Force (Netflix)

The season was dropped today. I have been looking forward to this since it was announced and three episodes in it hasn’t disappointed.

A typical Steve Carrell vehicle somewhere between Get Smart and The Office.

Extra marks since the Joint Chiefs of Staff meeting room in the Pentagon has a world map on the wall that includes NZ.

Edit: Im trying not to binge because the season is only 10 half hour episodes.

Breeders.
Very enjoyable UK comedy series with Martin Freeman (good to see him back in a comic role) dealing with the delights of parenthood. Anyone with children will get it, and may serve as a good prophylactic for those considering having them. A classic short British run of something like eight half-hour episodes.

Space Force on Netflix. Watched the first episode last night. Will watch one more episode but I do not hold out much for it. It is rather banal and suitable for teens and young adults BUT.

What was John Malkovich thinking? paying off a large mortgage or alimony perhaps.

5 maybe a 6 out of 10

farcus:

been watching One Lane Bridge on TVNZ Ondemand.
Really well shot show and started out pretty good in the first episode but it was all downhill from there.
Such a garbage story full of cliches and dated NZ stereotypes . . . and then we get to the final episode where it seems they just decided they had better finish things off as quick as possible.

I agree. The start was interesting, the middle episodes were okish but then the ending was just weird. Total waste of NZ on Air money and really just trying to showcase Queenstown and surrounding area. For someone local it also made no sense, jumping between Glenorchy, Queenstown and Lake Hayes like they are all the same location.

I've started watching Avenue 5 on Sky Go.

Hugh Laurie is great as somewhat inept Space Cruise Ship captain and the supporting cast are brilliant.

It gets annoying at times, but is definitely worth a watch if you like Sci-Fi comedy of the somewhat absurd and ridiculous kind.

I really enjoyed this. Has Jared from silicon Valley in it as well, very very funny.

Just finished watching the final season of Homeland. Very sad to see it end. One of my favorite shows of all time.

Ragnarok S01E01 (on Netflix)

Went in without any expectations, pleasantly surprised. Some familiar themes, but seems well put together and well acted, with some stunning scenery in the background.

Alex Rider on TVNZ OnDemand series based on the 12 or so books of the same name. IMDb rating = 7.3 and I am giving it a 7 after 2 episodes. Keep in mind this is Late Teen-Young Adult genre. Don't look too closely at the lazy plots and continuity. Very easy on the grey matter. It has all the latest tech and cars.

It has been described as James Bond as a teenager.

Thanks for the recommendation. Enjoying it so far, ended up binging 3 episodes in a row.

I am pretty sure I have been some of those places, but I don't know them well enough to go "ah-ha, thats where that was" most of the time.

Nice to be able to watch a Norwegian show in Norwegian (had to tweak some settings though, its dubbed in English by default).

Think most of the locations are in the west coast of Norway. It is a pretty part of Norway.

@FineWine: thanks for the heads-up; while you say 'late teen', what's the youngest age you think it's suitable for? I see it's rated 'M' by TVNZ.

My oldest son (close to 13) has read many of the books and as a family we have listened to many of them as audiobooks in the car, but often visuals (compared to the written or spoken word) can be more disturbing...
