Gemini- It doesn't sound outside the normal limits, I hope your parcel/s don't get lost like mine!

Last status update it had cleared customs in Auckland on the 1st of Feb- Its now officially lost and I am (still) trying to get my money back!

There's still time for 2 of my parcels to be lost

Good luck with the refund

Thanks Gemini,

Youshop emailed me asking for more details- which were already in my previous email. I copied what I sent before and sent it again. It seems a bit hopeless but I might eventually see the 200 plus dollars they owe me (plus how much for the f***around)

I am dealing with a good one at the moment:

-Package arrived at UK warehouse on 27/01, I paid straight away and it left the UK on 28/01.

-Arrived in NZ 01/02, sorted and cleared customs the same day

Sounds good doesn't it?

-Well its 09/02 and I haven't seen it yet, no tracking events since 01/02. Apparently its never made it to Christchurch. They are getting security to look on the cameras or something (?!) to see if they can find it in AKL and at the moment they can't give me a delivery date (but not likely this week).

Best case scenario could be delivery on 13/02- 4 days to travel the 20 odd thousand KM from the UK and they can't get it together for the last 1200 km of the journey.

I have never had a problem with you shop before but this experience has really annoyed me!

- Its a big parcel (ended up costing over 100 shipping by volumetric weight) so its not like its slipped down inside machinery or anything!

-27/02, Case was sent to the claims team to see if I am eligible for compensation.

Four days later still nothing back about it- tomorrow it will be 1 month after the date it was expected to be delivered to me and its coming up 2 months since I ordered the original package (2 months on Monday).

Hasn't been one for ages; my thinking is they stopped doing them when they introduced economy postage

I've just used YouShop for the first time. It will also be the last.

I didn't realise this, but there is no way to prevent an item from being repacked. Before I even knew my parcel had arrived at the USA warehouse, this had already been done.

Repacking saved me less than $10, which I would have gladly paid to ensure my item made it across the Pacific undamaged. Instead my item could easily have been damaged on its way here - it arrived with its protective packaging missing, rattling around in a flimsy used-to-be-a box.

But as it happens, I needn't have worried about the item getting damaged once it left the USA - the people doing the repacking had already taken care of that! Repacking apparently involves opening the old box and hacking at the inner packaging with a knife, making a long slice in the contents while doing so. The contents of my parcel are now completely unusable.

I won't be using YouShop again unless I need to ship some stab-proof vests.

I've never had a package repacked, and my most recent package was here in about a week despite taking the cheaper shipping option.

They say in their FAQ that they only repack if it saves you money even with the repacking fee

The breakdown also shows the old dimensions vs new dimensions for you to compare (and I think how much repacking saved you)

However the damage isn't excusable, so complain hard (though I hope you took pictures of the box on arrival)

I have no complaints about the time it took the item to arrive. I'm sure if the item wasn't repacked, everything would have been fine.

However, I won't be using YouShop again unless there is some way to opt out of repacking - at present, everything they handle is at risk of being recklessly opened and destroyed.

nzkiwiman:

Repacking did indeed save me a few dollars - at least, it could have done. Replacing the broken item is going to leave me worse off by at least $50.

I would have readily paid the extra few dollars in shipping to avoid the risk of damage, but was never given this option.

nzkiwiman:

Repacking is done to reduce the dimensions when the volumetric weight is significantly higher than the actual weight. This happens when a lot of protective packing material is used.

Unfortunately, items with a lot of protective packing tend to be those which are more delicate - so it's crazy that NZ Post's policy is to remove most of the packing material and, it seems, attack what's left with a knife.

I do indeed have pictures of the packaging and the damaged item itself. NZ Post have asked me to ship everything to them so they can assess the damage themselves.

Has anyone shipped shoes via youshop economy? What'd it cost? Looking at some outdoor shoes, NZ$135 on Amazon, NZ$250 in stores here, but with shipping and reshipping that goes down to a saving of around $50.

I recently had a small package shipped from the US to NZ (still en route). The shipping options were 'quick' $22 or 'slightly slower' (only a few days longer) $16. Out of curiosity I'm wondering what the physical difference is between the two? Maybe quick is courier end-to-end and the other is simple airmail?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I brought shoes from overseas a few times but yet to use economy. Each time it has been 35, at a guess I'd say economy would be about 22?

I find them the same. I suspect economy goes on the next plane that has space, but full price goes on the next plane regardless.
