I read somewhere that the rules regarding the use of the median strip can be different in other countries (don't quote me on this) and might explain why a good number of Aucklanders (who learned to drive overseas) use the flush median poorly, if at all.

Yep, UK rules says "If the area is marked by chevrons and bordered by solid white lines you MUST NOT enter it except in an emergency."  Took me a while to readjust to NZ rules and I dare say lots of immigrants remain oblivious to NZ practice

I'm the type that likes to acknowledge decent customer service, especially when it's probably common for the company to receive complaints, or no feedback at all. Because I know what it's like to receive a few glowing compliments amongst many negative feedback.

In the last year alone, I've given positive/glowing feedback directly to 4 different companies about their staff member who - in my opinion - went above & beyond their role to provide excellent customer service to me.

I even asked to pass that feedback on to the staff member.

None of these companies acknowledged my compliments.

It's small in that I am not expecting response/acknowledgement, but I would have expected that in a world of criticism, negativity, the companies would have appreciated some positive news about their staff.

For shop workers, I ALWAYS make the effort to thank them for their awesome service when they do that little bit extra.

It costs $0 to make someone smile, and yet I still feel rewarded by making that persons day a little brighter.

At one of my coffee places, every 10th cup is free, I give this to the barista to hand over to the next person (and they do), or if there is someone behind me "Congrats, you have won a free coffee". It surprising how many people are stressed/tired/depressed and this small thing brightens their day enormously.

But that's what a flush median is for, so many people don't use them.

And so many people flinch when you use it because they think you are coming into their lane and they are the same people who don't use them.

Maybe a bit harsh to fail him for not using it though, maybe should have questioned him on why he wasn't using it.

It's all very well saying you can use the flush median but so can the traffic on your left if they are turning. As well as picking a gap on your right you have to check that none of the traffic on your left is about to enter the median strip. Of course if they aren't indicating you KNOW that it will be ok.

People complaining that UberEats is killing their business, despite a massive chunk of it being entirely their choice due to advertising, which is a separate cost centre and presumably, temporary to raise their profile in the app.

The costs are clearly outlined in the contract.

This isn't a Uber Eats problem, this is a I don't know how to run a business problem.

Before everyone gets excited, yes their fees are high, yes, I do think too high, but it's a choice you make to engage a service like this.

The “Close” button when viewing an image in a chat for a Teams call is positioned such that if you bounce your mouse button accidentally you’ll also click the “Leave” button - dropping your active Teams call.

"Stop Sharing" and "Leave" are both red. I don't think I've done it myself, but a number of people at work have left when they intended to stop sharing.

Bad interface design.

Like designing a fighter jet and putting the press to talk button next to 'eject'.

Just doesn't need to be done.

Another is allowing a user to expand a window at the top right which is a gnat's c*ck away from the 'x' for close. Why not shift the 'X' to the left a bit?

Don't get me started on Windows interface design.

Up to and including NT 3.51: Double-clicking the top-left corner of a window was the "normal" way to close it.
Windows 95: New "x" button added to top right, only requiring a single click. Double-clicking the top-left corner continued to work.
Windows 8 (I think): A handful of built-in apps suddenly switched to maximising when double-clicking the top-left corner, while other apps would close.
Windows 11: Same, although it's more than a handful of apps now. You can sort-of tell what it's going to do based on how the window looks, but this isn't always the case.

And for that matter, why does Microsoft Excel have tabs at the bottom of the window, while Microsoft Edge has them at the top?!

Apps like spotify on mobile, have a search button at the top. Click that and it sends you to the bottom to enter your search text.

You couldn't make this stuff up.

From a restaurant owner: This is an Uber Eats problem, because they lock you in, you can't escape any more once you sign up.  So the only way to get out is to tell customers that even though you're on Uber Eats, please don't order through them.
