Also - having my stitches removed from my face today and my needlephobia is causing massive anxiety - I know they're not sticking needles in me, but the idea of string being pulled out of my face has me on the verge of a nervous breakdown. It's the same thing in my head.

I shall be taking anxiety medication/sedatives and hoping for the best...

I have recently received emails from IAG, Apple and Garmin that look like they could be scam emails, but checking the headers and the links makes me 99% sure they're legitimate.

It's terrible that these companies are still promoting behaviours that make their customers vulnerable to actual scams.

Thankfully most if not all of them are intercepted by my email provider's spam filter. That said, I do have to whitelist a small number of genuine messages that get spam-trapped.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Website with the PDF manual for a piece of equipment. Artificial 30-second delay before it lets you download it, to try to force you into using their chatbot instead.

Trying to get people to understand how aircon works and the fact you don't need to turn the thermostat down to the lowest possible setting to get a room or car down comfortable temperature when it's hot outside.

Just set 22 to 23 degrees C and the aircon will sort it out just as quickly as setting it to the lowest setting.

Sure you may need to adjust the temperature you set depending on where the thermostat is positioned relative to where you are, but once it's set it won't need changing.

I think thermostats should be taught at school. The number of times people have decided that its too cold so bumped the number up to stupidly high numbers when its set to cool so it just stops is amazing. Then by the time people realize that its too hot it cant get it back under control in a reasonable time so they set it to 18 and then it eventually gets too cold and someone else sets it back to 28 and it repeats.

NGL, I am always being told off by Sensibo for having our heatpumps set incorrectly.

At night I want it postiively icy as I am a hot sleeper, and nothing under 18c cold gets it there for me, nek minute, it's saying set to 22c!

The generally accepted temp is 22 to 23 for a living area though for most of us a lower temperature works better for sleeping. Your 18 degrees is probably close to the mark.

richms: I think thermostats should be taught at school.

That would actually be a good move.  There's been several studies done of peoples' mental models of thermostats, of which several exist, and all but one are wrong.

The common one is things heat up or cool down quicker when the thermostat is set to max or min respectively. Just leave it alone and let it do its job.

Some heatpumps come with a function you can turn on that will run the fan at a higher speed for a length of time to achieve this.

Oh...and went to buy some testing strips for my pool....and they want you to use an App....

If I need to install an app to use your product, I will buy someone else's. NO NO NO NO, I DO NOT want to be tracked, monetised, spammed, etc.

Marketing people are probably the greatest evil seen on earth...

Incompetent businesses.

Took my car in to get checked over as its still under warranty and the rear diff is making a bit of noise. They confirm the issue, tell me its needs to be referred to head office for approval to repair under warranty and they will call me. Three week goes past and I hear nothing so I drop in to the dealer to follow up. I'm told they have no record of my car being assessed for a warranty issue, nothing referred to head office and it will be the end of January before it can be booked in to be looked at.

The workshop foreperson comes out and we go for a quick drive around the block. We turn a corner, the diff goes clunk and immediately he says "I remember this car now, I'll need to get head office approval to repair it".  Arrrghhhhh!!!!

When will they check whether the diff parts are even in country - March or April next year? Don't count on having a car at Easter.

Oh boy, I am now officially triggered! My car has a very good dual zone climate control system. Put it on 'auto' * and set the temperature(s) you want and let it do its thing. However... my wife insists on overriding it by fiddling with the fan setting or turning it down to "low". I try, I really try, to explain, without mansplaining, that the clever engineers know what they are doing and it is best just set and left alone. However this concept cannot be expressed without causing offence and is otherwise ignored.

What is it about wives being open to advice and helpful suggestions from anyone apart from their husbands, who despite holding STEM university degrees simply know nothing?

*IIRC the car computer has profiles for the climate control and can be set from mild through to aggressive. I should try setting it to aggressive.
