You didnt say which tooth it was...back or front?

Ideally you need a minimum of 4 hrs between 50mg doses, since you have already taken it I would suggest you take the panadol next, wait until the pain is bad again and then repeat with just the panadol. Try not to take the next voltaren until after midnight or 2am if you can.. that should give you moderate pain relief (with the extra panadol) until you get to the dentist at 11.

I doubt you will get much sleep tonight anyway by the sounds of it. Remember, you arent going to achieve total pain relief.. but the voltaren will aid in reducing the current inflammation. I hope they were your own prescription and not someone elses (although in fairness they are still over the counter in Oz)

Just rub the clove oil around the sore tooth.. on the gum.

"for severe pain panadeine and neurofen together."
Gilco2 is right, maybe you should talk to the pharmacy tomorrow.. or the dentist can write you a script for something.

Re. Root canal; I've had it mentioned to me by the dentist as a possibility before, it is one of the very back teeth. But I've heard from numerous people that its not worth it because its extremely painful and requires multiple treatments, its extremely expensive, and has a decent risk of failure resulting in extraction eventually anyway. So if they say I need that I'm just going to get them to take it out because then later on I can always get a false one put in if I find it absolutely necessary.

And yes, I'll deffo be asking the dentist for a prescription tomorrow if nothing happens because this is not cool lol. Whats the worst case if I accidentally overdose on those things? I'm sure I wont but on the off chance?

Best not to exceed 4g of paracetamol a day - higher than that and you start getting into potentially liver-toxic levels.

I wouldn't normally take more than 150mg of voltaren a day either - higher than that and you start getting into potentially kidney-toxic levels.

Likelihood of either of these things happening to you is fairly low, mind you, but it's best to stay within the guidelines.

You wont overdose on 2x50mg tablets... they arent like that. Just be careful with the amount of panadol you add to the mix. Stick to the correct dose. Listen to KevinL.

Could it be your wisdom teeth Sam? You are about the right age for them.. good luck tomorrow anyway. :)

Check for infection first! Abcess? Severe pain is a signal, not something to be suppressed in ignorance. Infections such as blood poisoning can develop exponentially.

Yes I value my kidneys and liver xD
Too young to lose those now.

I'm really hoping its just the damn wisdom teeth, atleast those can be dealt with and I keep my teeth. Hahaha.

And I don't think it is infected. I can't see any sign of abscess or anything, it doesn't bleed when I brush it, nor does it seep or have puss come out that I can see/taste (ew). Are there any other signs other than pain? I don't really wanna call those guys and waste their time :S

I'm scared about having it out, because last time I had a tooth taken out was years and years ago, and even then it was completely dead, it was a baby tooth, and the dentist was able to pull it out with her fingers without aesthetic or anything.

I bet I'll get a lecture or something from him after ><

I Have one wisdom tooth on the bottom right side poking through the gum already anyway, I should ask him about that too and see if thats going to cause problems.I can't brush it properly because its really really reallyyyyyyy far back lol.

An awful lot of medical advice here from non doctors :-)

Here's my experience - it should not be construed as medical advice but it's probably going to be extremely relevant.

I had a bad tooth and severe toothache and I had this for _months_ before things got so bad I went to the dentist. (I thought I was terrified of them - I'll get to that).

I took the max dose of plain old panadol and taken at the max dose on the pack, it kept the pain in check. If I missed a dose, and first thing in the morning, it was agony.

Something else that shouldn't have worked (but did)... Sipping ice water and sloshing it around the area... Depending on your issue it might not help (or be painful) but it worked well for me.

As for the dentist - the one I eventually went to was incredibly nice, non judgemental, professional, quick and cheaper than I thought. I got no lecture (although I deserved one!) and the injected anaesthetic was so amazing I _instantly_ felt totally better, even before the extraction. That experience instantly turned me from a problem patient to someone that now looks forward to my 6 monthly checkups.

I also had a root canal a couple of months later (got everything fixed after the initial emergency fix) and it wasn't that expensive - I think about $400 in total... It wasn't painful in the slightest and in fact even though I only had a local, I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep while he was doing it.

I know you have an appointment already, but if the dentist gives you a lecture at all, then do some research and find another one for any other fix up work required.

There is no longer any need to put up with any crap - there are polite, customer focussed dentists around who truly understand how stressful this can be and they do everything they can to make it easier.

Good luck.

Not that any internet forum should be a replacement for actual medical advice, mind you!

Yeh thats for sure, my doctor friend a while ago recommended me a new dentist since I'd turned 18. Currently with Mighty Mouth, and they are such judgemental biaches, I really dislike going there for that reason but I felt given the situation I should probably go there now and get it sorted asap, then arrange a new dentist afterwards. Do you think I should request all my old files from them to give to a new dentist or should I just not bother?

Hahahahaha, fair enough! (Still, that's just you off the hook - my point does stand :-)

tardtasticx: I've tried pandol, 3 different types of Nurofen and they all do the same thing, gets rid of the pain after about an hour, then as soon as i do anything near the tooth it just starts hurting again.

you may want to stop taking nurofen and voltaren at this stage. these two drugs are similar and should not be mixed.

if you go to emergency, they should be able to give you something stronger for tonight until you see a dentist tomorrow.
