I went to buy some tickets at the Embassy and the only option for a family of 4 was without glasses! I have no idea what would happen if I bought the tickets - would I have turn up with my own glasses or buy them at the door?

I guess I won't be seeing it in 48 FPS in my hick town.

As for 3D, I don't feel it adds anything to my movie going experience.

Depends on the stock at theatre. If they are fancy ones, you get them as you go in and return afterwards. If they are cheapies (Hoyts) you pay $1 and use them next time too. I keep a pair in the glovebox

FYI: The big Cinema (Number 3) upstairs at Rialto Dunedin will be showing The Hobbit in HFR 3D.

More importantly, when will home gear catch up and support 48 or better still doubled/quadrupled up to a greater rate.

How does 48FPS compare against a 100Hz LCD? I would have thought moving to 48FPS from 24FPS would be seen as only just catching up to LCDs etc?

Personally can't stand watching moving at the theater now, almost seem juddery.

We've not long come back from DisneyWorld where we did Star Tours at Hollywood Studios. I would assume that the Orlando one is using the same frame rate as California?

It was fantastic! It is one of the "rides" that I'd like to go and do again. I generally enjoyed the 3D/4D attractions more than the other attractions in the parks as they were so well done. Especially the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man at Universal's Islands of Adventure - that was another well put together ride!

All a 100Hz LCD does is interpolate images from a 50Hz source, which if it's 1080i interlaced is still only 25FPS.

48FPS on the other hand is a true doubling of the capture rate.

Booked 3 tickets for us a few days ago, going to see it at the Embassy on the 16th at 9pm. Can't wait! I'll be seeing it in 48fps of course - any new technical advancement in cinema is a good thing in my opinion, even if it sucks it's nice to know they're giving things a go and not staying static. Even nicer to think that it's NZ that's leading the way technically...again :)

I'll probably go and see it in 2d the following week so I can make a decent judgement about which was better for me personally. I've been avoiding reviews like the plague, though it sucks because a lot of bloggers put their thoughts in the page title so I can't help but see some things when I flick though my Reeder feeds....still - I'm keeping myself as in the dark as possible.

It'll be the first 3D movie my fianc?e has seen, which is a worry because she's always been scared of getting motion sick, and gets headaches easily. I thought this would be a good one to be her first 3D experience as James Cameron seems to think 48fps will help to avoid those types of ailments given the lack of strobing and such. But I'm fully prepared for her to leave and go to the pub a few minutes into the film once she realises she can't watch it. At least that'll give me and her brother a seat between us to stretch out a bit :)

I see Embassy is offering 2D, 3D, and high frame rate 3D. I'll be going for the high frame rate 3D, but it makes me wonder what the other two offerings are, and why they chose that approach.

I'd better get my booking in.

The Spiderman ride 3D segments at Orlando were just amazingly well done even if other parts of ride seemed to date from a previous attraction. I screamed like a child. I may have been suffering from jetlag increasing the vertigo to my advantage. :- ).

For sure. Even in LA I can only count about 4 theatres with Atmos and this is the entertainment capital of the world.

None in Australia as I noted.
