Is there a requirement that you courier it? There should be a way to send a tracked parcel through the regular postal service (it's certainly possible in the other direction). Should be significantly cheaper than courier.

I might contact Paypal and ask them what they suggest. It may just be my tough luck, win some lose some.

Nope. The first postal service that offers tracking internationally is the Economy Intl Courier, which costs $48.20 (zero rated for GST)

Hmm. I sent a tracked package to Australia using "International Air" a few months ago, although I had to pay a little extra to turn it into a "consignment" to get the tracking. I don't see any mention of that in NZ Post's rate finder though so can't say whether it's an Australia-only service.
