When did you buy that?

All the external 1Tb drives I've seen in the last few weeks have been way more than $100.

Yep - a flood will do that for you.

They expect prices on all laptops and desktops to rise because of it.

I wonder if iPods will rise in price too... in particular the iPod Classic?

Intel 320 Series 300GB 2.5" SATA2 SSD - $1,278.00

I got a price for disks ranging up to 600Gb this afternoon.

Wonder what will happen, will SSD's come down (of course they will), will they fix the factories and keep making spindles.

So have you actually read the thread and seen that it is talking about prices having risen in the last few weeks (not over the last 6 months) and the fact that it is due to the Thai floods? IMO Your comment about brand has no relevance what-so-ever.

His comment was irrelevant to do with the brand yes, although I mentioned above I purchased a 1tb external seagate 3 weeks ago for the same price (After the flood) from DSE is relevant. Although the same type is now selling for $149. I presume they had a lot of stock to be able to have that special still run.

Yes, once all the previous stock had sold and the new (higher cost) stock started arriving then the prices jumped. Most chains buy in bulk to be able to offer the specials prices they offer (or commit to large quantity in a certain time frame). Most chains old stock is now well and truly exhausted, and we're seeing stock from soon after the floods started. Expect to see more price jumps as later shipments come into the stores... I'm kicking myself now for not getting another drive a couple of months ago.
