TwoSeven: Just recently saw this movie, while I thought it was good and I and the music added to the feel! I thought the attention to detail on the equipment was very good and also the age of the soldiers. The RAF scenes were good as well.

For me though, my grandfather was in the BEF (aged 22) and and after 21st of May ‘went off the beach’ at Ostend after first trying at Nieupoort - which is half way along the beach. There were a couple of scenes that were in the movie that he had talked about as his experience - one was standing in the sea for a long time, the other was getting tea and an apple on the ship and a sandwich back in England. Also, mentioned in the movie was their return back to base at Woking where he was originally based.

What movie?

Dunkirk,

Sorry using IOS 11 on ipad, thought I had an opening sentence. Would go back an edit it using this forums lovely editing feature but apparently there isnt one.

There is an editing feature, but because you're not 'trusted' (which you can get by meeting one of the mods personally), you're restricted in the amount of time you have available to go back and edit posts. Trusted members have no restrictions at all on editing old posts.

Aha! In that case, apologies for my somewhat terse post above :)

There is one but it's time limited. In the past we had people going back in threads and changing their posts to something completely different when called out, so now you have a time limit to change posts.

Gosh, snarky people.

Atomic Blonde - Good fight scenes but without a good story and screenplay it was just visual noise. I got bored and almost fell asleep 3/10

No doubt trying to cash in on the success of John Wick. The trailer looked good, but I suspected it was probably all the best bits and that there would be little substance outside of the action.

(that said, I loved John Wick and am keen as to see the second instalment).

I'm in the minority I think, but I was very disappointed with John Wick 2. Really enjoyed the first one though.

Yep I agree, loved the shotgun scene that was great but overall it didn't compare to the epicness of the first.

Have been trying to get some time to see Dunkirk and hopefully seeing it on the Titan Xc this sat. Much hype from this forum about this movie! Better be good :-p

Last war type movie I watched was Fury and that was great.

alien covenant - 1/2*  why was this even made ?

scott retire now !!!

Just watched this myself and so disappointed , what a piece of cr*p it tied into nothing, one out of ten and I don't even know why I give it a one to be honest.

I re-watched the 1979 Alien last night and was reminded of what a great film it was. I would rank it as a masterpiece of its genre.

It was also a helpful exercise to cleanse my palate of the recent Alien messes that are Prometheus and Covenant.

The Case for Christ - I have a friend who found religion a few years ago and this movie is based on one of the books that he has read. Incredibly one-sided Christian propaganda supposedly presenting facts that prove the Resurrection. An atheist launches an investigation hoping to disprove the Resurrection, when he fails he accepts Jesus and everyone lives happily ever after. 3/10

A Christian may find the film more enjoyable than I did.

It did encourage me to read up a little on the so called historical "evidence" that was presented in the movie. I hadn't actually realised that the general consensus among historians is that Jesus most likely was a real historical figure. Although the "evidence" that he rose from the dead isn't overly convincing to me.

I haven't seen the film, but have read up on it. I think there is a fair amount of scepticism as to how atheist the claimed "atheist" was to begin with. It sounds like this is a propaganda piece from the religious right, for the religious right.

You forgot to mention the whole AVP franchise of movies, they're a lot worse!

The Accountant.

I've read mixed reviews, so I went in with low expectations. What followed was two hours of top notch fun. This is an absurd yet very entertaining film.

Despicable Me 3 - I enjoyed #1, thought #2 struggled and feel asleep in #3, my wife wasn't far behind either. Our 16yo was glad to have missed it, 14yo gave it a 1, 9yo thought it was ok. That sums up the audience really.

Dunkirk - I loved it but my wife wasn't all that impressed. I really enjoyed the 'grimness' of it all, which the British excel at, whereas I think my wife expected some kind of story. I did find one of the plot lines a little unbelievable and a Google search after the fact confirmed my thoughts, but overall it was well worth watching. The only spoiler for me was the CRAP picture quality at our local cinema.

Blazzing Saddles - One of my all time favourites so I decided to unleash it on the family. We stopped it after 10 minutes to wait for the 9yo to go to bed ! About halfway through my wife and 16yo daughter had given up but my 14yo boy stuck with it. I saw it as a teenager back in the 80's and attitudes to racism and sexism have changed massively in that time. Some of the jokes made me cringe rather than laugh even accepting the satirical nature of it all.

Shooter - This story has been told more times than I've had hot dinners and my wife has always HATED American action movies but she suggested it and I couldn't be bothered finding anything else. It was paint by numbers with the expected unbelievable scenarios. If you like that sort of thing, go for it, but you wont see anything which hasn't been done a million times before.
