Just watched it. I thought the tone was a bit hit and miss - one minute it's over-the-top (Blut, the hit gang), the next it's all serious (cabin in the woods). Somehow John Wick manages to pull it off though but Polar just missed the mark somewhat. And Matt Lucas as the bad guy? All I could think about was Little Britain. The bad guy makes the movie IMO and he's no Hans Gruber (the number one bad guy ever - period)

It had it's moments though - Mads was good and (mild spoiler) the hit on the cabin was great.

South Korean zombie movie on a train (to Busan)

Pretty good - now I think back I'm trying to recall if a single gunshot was fired the whole movie. I can't think of any instance BICBW.

Critics hated it , it sits around 12% on Rotten Tomatoes, i just like the fact it doesn't takes itself seriously and i had to smile at the reference to John Wick with the dog.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Ben Affleck is officially done as Batman. New movie in 2021 directed by Matt Reeves will have a new Batman.

Finally got to see “The Nutcracker and The Fourth Realm”. I’ve read many bad things about this film, so ordinarily I would set my expectations low. I knew the film was based on the book "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King" and the ballet, but knowing little of either, I kept an open mind. The extent to which the ballet is called upon I couldn’t tell you, but obviously Tchaikovsky’s music comes from there. Once you disregard all the reviews that complain about it not being a film version of the ballet, the reviews read as significantly less terrible.

It’s like “Howard The Duck” (1986) all over again – when I saw Howard as a child, I knew nothing of his origin as a Marvel comic character. It was just a fun movie which I enjoyed, and to this day still enjoy. I feel somewhat similar about Nutcracker – didn’t know the story before, don’t really know it now, but the film provided a relatively pleasant, albeit predictable way to fill in the evening.

As children’s movies go, it’s significantly less terrible than many. How “The NeverEnding Story” (1984) manages 7.4 on IMDB I’m at a loss to explain. That’s the same as “Labyrinth” (1986), which is actually a good film.

I’d watch it again.

I watched Polar recently and thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is and I agree 100% with you comment regarding Matt Lucas' character.

He just couldn't pull off the kind of character that the bad guy should have been as he seems to be too much of a comedic actor and lacks the conviction to play the role as needed (My 2 cents worth).

Once Upon a Time in Mexico on Netflix - 4/10. Oh dear the actors (Antonio Baneras, Johnny Depp, Mickey Rourke, Willem Dafoe and even Enrique Iglesias [son of] and Danny Trejo) were all "Paying off the alimony and mortgages" in this "C" grade. I stopped viewing halfway through and went to bed. I only got that far cause I had had 3 glasses of red and was hoping, praying for it to get better. There's 50 minutes I wont get back.

Warning, there is quite a bit of Spanish spoken as well which is not subtitle by default. You have to turn on Netflix subtitles to understand what is spoken but you then also get the English subtitled.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Alita - Battle Angel. Visuals are stunning. 3D was rather unnecessary. Story is ok-ish for an origin movie and I did leave the theatre wanting to see what happens next, so that helps. Trouble is that during the movie I found myself wanting to check my watch. I hope that it does well enough to warrant the sequel it was so majorly set up for but while it was number one in the US this past weekend, it has not done staggering numbers. I'd give the movie a 7/10 in total with the fantastic effects and the fact that the characters were likeable saving it from a lower score.

This not a film review but a recommendation to see a series about how different genres of films are constructed.

If you have access to BBC IPlayer take a look at the documentary series Mark Kermode's Secrets Of Cinema. Mark is a film critic of many years and explains the techniques used to make 6 different genres of films.

For any film buff it's fascinating and eye opening.

Saw the new Spiderman - Into the Spider Verse..

I thought it was pretty good.. it's animated and you can see they're trying to appeal to the younger audience..

But.. I liked it.. was funny.. lots of action.. Spiderman.. who has always been my favorite.. 8/10
