Sorry, bringing this back to life but got an email today that they have the Ecco shoes on Amazon GoldBox today only. A couple of business shoes going for as low as US$ 79.
I personally haven't bought Ecco yet but since this thread I've bought a pair of Bostonian Calhoun Oxford (leather sole) from Amazon which I see are now US$ 69 and before that I bought a pair of Bostonian Nasello (slip on, rubber sole). which is US$ 85.
I have two other pairs of business shoes (one rubber sole, another leather sole). I never use the same pair of shoes two days in a row, and only wear the leather sole ones when it is not raining (check the weather before leaving home or traveling).
Bought a pair of Merrel Waterproof Hiking shoes a couple of weeks ago, using YouShop - one week to deliver here at home, $20 shipping. Yes, some shoes on Amazon ship directly to New Zealand but most don't, so YouShop is your friend.

If you want the best, you need to save shopping for next time you are in the UK and head to Northampton.
Here you will find many of the famous English shoemakers like Trickers, Crockett & Jones, Churches, Loakes Barkers etc and you can go into the factory shops (which are usually just small rooms attached to the factories) and get classic handmade English shoes at good prices. They won't be cheap but the oldest pair in my wardrobe stems from when I was at University and I left there in 1990...!
Truly the best? Go to Lobbs in St James. Will be about NZ$10,000 for the first pair though.

I've recently moved to dress boots from RM Williams, I have two pairs and they're super comfortable. I wore a pair out, so sent them back to Aussie to be re-solded, have new inner soles fitted and buffed etc. Not a cheap exercise by any stretch of the imagination, but they are simply the most comfortable items I've ever worn.
I'll buy standard shoes now that the Auckland heat is getting up there / for days when I have longer drives... maybe Ecco, maybe RM Williams.

Yes, I wear those a lot more than normal shoes when going anywhere that requires a more dressy approach.
I have a pair they custom made for me in Kangaroo leather. I wanted the wide (X) fitting boot but normally it comes in standard leather only. I emailed and asked if I could have a pair in Kangaroo and they said "Sure" and I had them inside a few weeks by courier. Kangaroo is fabulous leather - one of the strongest in terms of weight/strength ratio and very supple.
