A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms 7/10 NEON

A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg, wandered through Westeros while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne, and dragons were still remembered. Great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends.

Absolutely enjoying this prequel series to GOT. Though there is a couple of 'get right in your face' scenes in Ep 1 & 2 that are not for the prudish. Weekly releases which I look forward to.

I believe the scene you are describing is so far fetched it is hilarious.

it has had to be confirmed online that it is in fact a prosthetic

Been getting into The Traitors UK of late - thoroughly enjoyable and Claudia Winkelman is excellent as the devious and actually quite likeable host.

I am also really enjoying this, although I think The Traitors would be better if the 'murdered' players actually died.

Quite a hot take, but I think in Amerika and Russia, this may have legs.

I am currently watching Wonderman
Not knowing anything about it, I have gone into this quite blind, but I am enjoying it.

Ben Kingsley revisiting Trevor Slattery is fun.

Speaking of GOT, a couple of episodes into the new Sophie Turner project "Steal" and it has been excellent so far.

The Recruit (Netflix). Thankfully coming late into this one - I gave up after episode 2. I can imagine how the pitch for this went. "Bro, I've got a great idea. Imagine Jack Ryan, but with a workplace comedy and a bit 'Friends'. Gonna be awesome!" The outcome is mindnumbingly dumb unfunny mess that goes from "Salt" to "The Office" to "Friends" within a matter of minutes and fails at all of them.

It got me thinking about Netflix recommendations engine though. I do like spy thrillers, but I absolutely hated this one. If I downvote it, will Netflix engine interpret it as me not liking spy series and stop recommending them to me?

My wife and I might be the last people (with TVs) to watch Breaking Bad.  It's as good as the hype, but Walt is way darker than I expected.  We'll work our way through Better Call Saul when we finish BB (we are on the last series).

Nope, I was gifted the bluray box set a few years ago and I havent watched it yet.

PONIES on TVNZ+

Two CIA widows try their hand at being spies to find out how their husbands died.

Set in 1970s Moscow.

Watch it for the soundtrack alone, but also a rollicking good yarn.

Starring Emilia Clarke, mother of dragons; Haley Lu Richardson who I've not seen in anything before but reminds me of Natasha Lyonne in Poker Face, and Adrian Lester from Hustle, obviously he's a bit older now.

I'm up to Ep7 of 8 and annoyed that we have guests coming round today so I wont be able to finish it until tomorrow.

I tried "The Night Agent". Hated it. If it wasn't taking itself so seriously it would've been a fantastic satire or at least an opportunity for an over-the-top 90's Arnie-style action series. Instead, it's so cliched you can literally guess what happens next, down to the lines of dialogue. It's as if all these shows are written by 20 year olds with no notion of how anything at all works, acted by 20 year olds who can't act, and directed by 20 year olds who have no idea how real people behave. Has Netflix really become that bad, or is it just me hitting the age of perpetual disdain for anything new?

I had a long weekend of very uneven TV watching...

Wonder Man (Disney+) - 5/10

New MCU show?  I'll take a look.  I know nothing about the character, but Ben Kingsley returning as Trevor Slattery - that's gotta be good.  But two episodes in and I'm feeling very...meh about it.  I was telling my partner about this when she came home from her long weekend camping trip, and she still finds it hilarious that I continue to watch shows that aren't that good.  I explain that I'm waiting for it to get good.  I just hope that it gets good before the final episode.  Because so far I've been struggling to stay asleep as I watch the main character (can't even remember his name) fumble around auditions while Trevor is up to something behind the scenes.

Pluribus (Apple TV) - 5/10

So many people have said that this is really good, and it's been on my list for a little while.  So I sat down to watch it.  The premise is fantastic, and the trailer seemed to promise a lot - a woman finds that something has happened to (almost) everyone else on the planet, and they "want to make her happy".  It sounds like the premise for an episode of Outer Limits or Black Mirror.  But I'm three episodes in and wondering when or if it's going to get good.  It seems like most of the plot was played out in episode 1, and the rest of the episodes I've seen are the main character (Carol - at least I could remember this one's name!) being grumpy about the situation.  I don't want to give away any spoilers, but the premise opens up so many questions that the show (so far) seems to just ignore in favour of showing Carol being grumpy and angry towards everyone else who is happy.  There are some mildly humourous moments where she asks for (and then gets) things that seem quite surreal.  But it feels like a piece of sci-fi gold that has been smashed into billions of insubstantial gold flakes, and no longer impresses.  Again, I told my partner and she shook her head, wondering why I continued watching? I explained, again, that so many people have said that it's really good, so surely it must get better soon?  Someone, please tell me it does more after episode 3?

The Block Australia

Aside from the drama aspect, which we tended to miss, by not watching most of the episodes midweek, it has been a fairly solid season.

Watched the finale last night with the auctions.

For reference, there are 5 teams this season, with identical homes (on paper) in a sort of semi-suburb they have created in rural Victoria (about 1.5hrs from Melbourne) in a place called Daylesford.

They're all large single-storey 3 bedroom homes with added amenities, like wine cellars and spas etc, on 1000sqm sections.

The work that they do over a three month period is pretty back-breaking, but ultimately for $3m homes, I'd be wary of corner cutting and incomplete finishing.

The final was (to say the least) an underwhelming disappointment.

I won't spoil it for anyone that didn't see the series, but it's the usual stuff you see on these shows during tough financial times - overpriced, underwhelming and generally fairly predictable.

Mr Inbetween (drama, 2018-2021)

Ray Shoesmith is a father, ex-husband, boyfriend, brother and best friend; tough roles to juggle in the modern age. Especially, when you're also a criminal for hire.

Finished season 1 and am now halfway through season 2 (there are three seasons total).

Aussie show and really enjoying it. The episodes are short and snappy (under 30 minutes). I now also have a crush on Brooke Satchwell.

Tehran (APPLE TV) 8/10

Fantastic tense drama following an Israeli agent operating in Tehran, Iran

New season (3) features a south African accented Hugh Laurie (straight out after The Night Manager!)

Doesn't really paint either side in a good light

Was surprised to see on IMDB that some of the filming was on location in Tehran.

We watched that a while ago, and enjoyed it. Its a serial version of The Magician.

A Murder at the End of the World (season 1) Disney+

As the title suggests - a murder mystery, set in the far reaches of Iceland at a billionaire's hotel complex.

The characters are all high profile people invited to the retreat - scientists, artists, etc.

It stars Emma Corrin as Darby Hart - a writer who has a past that includes working alongside her father (a crime scene investigator) and a freelance murder scene blogger (I think).

It's slow but good.
