Tennet on Google movies 3/10

Oh what drivel.

I like a sci-fi action conspiracy as much as next man but after a hour or so I realised I just didn't care about movie and turned if off and went to bed with a book....

And I like movies. I probably haven't bailed on more than 4 movies I've paid to see in my life.

Maybe 3/10 is being generous

It really gets better after the car chase scene. The pace really picks up and everything starts to come together but it's not one of Nolan's better movies.

I just found it silly and inconsistent.

OK can't breath the air, fire is cold so why isn't light black, no one seems to react to the heros walking backwards.

Far better than I was led to believe.  Perhaps some people forgot that its basically a superhero movie - not high art.  Or perhaps people don't realise that the 80's was yuppies and cold war.

I thought it was great fun - although I'll never look at the Mandalorian the same way.

7/10

Southern Comfort 7.5/10 DVD

Survival drama with Louisiana Guards including David Carradine being hunted by Cajun locals. Very atmospheric with outstanding music by Ry Cooder.

Directed by Walter Hill.

I loved this movie when it came out. Rewatched recently, still atmospheric with outstanding soundtrack, but lead characters are basically 1980 versions of today's Proud Boys. They deserved all they got.

Wyatt Earp (1994) - Netflix - another long Kevin Costner 3 hr bio epic. 7/10. It filled the evening along with some 🍷. They got most of the facts correct https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyatt_Earp

The Dry 9/10.

Slow burner crime mystery based on the book by Jane Harper about a policeman returning to his claustrophobic small home town in outback Australia for the funeral of a school friend who has died died after apparently killing his family and himself.

Main character left town as a teenager under a cloud and town hasn't forgotten/forgiven him so there's two stories being told in parallel.

I like Eric Bana as an actor and I'd watch him in anything. I've read the book which explains some more about the back story of character but you don't need read the book.

Might see it again at some stage in future too.

I'm with you. We have some seriously tough critics here. I enjoyed it on the whole. Sure, it wasn't the best super hero movie, and it wasn't laurence of Oliver levels of acting, but as a way to consume 2 hours, it was pretty good. It had some great action scences.

Visually it was OK. Plot-wise...it was OK. Acting was OK. Theatre was good.

Mostly what I felt was that it was drawn out too long...way too many lingering scenes that could have had a snappier conclusion and a bit more pace.

I didn't like the 2 year old running up and down the aisle and shouting while the ignorant parents carried on like it was cute as hell.

EDIT: 6/10  - maybe a little generous.

I really wanted to like and enjoy this movie after a year of reasons to not go to the theatre. But.....

At least half an hour too long. Too many “emotional” scenes by characters that had earned no emotional investment from the audience. And realistically you shouldn’t need to for a superhero movie.

There were some pretty cool superhero moments, but perhaps spread a little too far apart. The 80s references were pretty well done, particularly the clothes and hairdos.

My wife loved the first Wonder Woman movie, hated (her word) this one.

The visuals were great, the acting was good, and even the plot was acceptable for a superhero movie. But it was almost like they then tried to shove a whole lot of crap in that should have been left on the cutting room floor in to pad out 151 minutes.

Not in a hurry to add this to my Bluray collection. That may change with a some retrospection, but at the moment I agree with the above and give it

6/10
