Is it just me or is this 'news article' no more than an advertisement?
“We’ve arranged a society based on science and technology, in which nobody understands anything about science technology. Carl Sagan 1996
It is what is euphemistically known as an 'advertorial' but it should specify that.

Geektastic: "Big pay rise for women!"
Said pay rise will cost "the government" $500 million. Not the taxpayers then. That's good. Special government money that comes from somewhere other than tax. A magic tree perhaps?
When it's good, the money is supplied by the government or the councils. When it's bad, it's the taxpayers and ratepayers that need to stump up.
However, this really is one of those things that irritate me - money doesn't come from guv'ment, it comes from tax payers.
I moot that every expenditure by guv'ments and councils clearly state that the taxpayer and ratepayer will be paying.
"Mr and Mrs J Smith win leaky $1.4m house claim against council - council to pay all costs to remedy and legal costs"
"Ratepayers will have to pay $1.4m to fix Mr and Mrs Smiths leaky house."
"Taxpayers didn't get a vote to give MP's 12% payrise, costing taxpayers $1.2M per year extra"

How is this "Breaking News" - Totally dilutes the meaning!

PhantomNVD: "Psychic's prediction for nuclear war"
Probably should be in the Trump thread but... seriously ridiculous as a news article 🙄

afe66: "This country will only have 10 minutes to prepare should North Korea launch a nuke"
Then click on the article and "this country" turns out to be Japan.
Literally true but vague enough to mislead. When Nz newspaper says "this country" most would assume it's talking about Nz....
But from their point of view it worked .... you clicked.
Which is the whole point of these reprinted articles that they deliberately copy wholesale and attach misleading headlines to.
Sadly, I'm old enough to remember back to when the Herald was a reputable source of actual news.
