Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

What an incoherent mess. 200 million for that claptrap? The MCU really has become trash since Endgame.

It's been quite a while since I enjoyed a superhero movie, they used to be awesome. I keep watching hoping to see improvements but so far no luck!

We re-watched Thor: Ragnorok the other week; one of the few Marvel movies I still get lots of pleasure out of watching more than once. I'm hoping Thor: Love and Thunder is close to that. (I'm assuming, though, that some may not share my love of this movie!)

Jerry and Marge Go Large - 7/10

This is inspired by the remarkable true story of retiree Jerry Selbee, who discovers a mathematical loophole in the Massachusetts lottery and, with the help of his wife, Marge, wins millions and uses the money to revive their small Michigan town.

Bryan Cranston is a long way from his 'Breaking Bad' character and is excellent in this role of the mild mannered, almost mildly autistic & savant husband/father.

Very delightful little movie suitable for young teens and upwards. No Violence, No sex, No nudity, very mild swearing.

Black Widow and Shang-Chi were as good as any others in the MCU, but I agree with Doctor Strange. I wanted to like it but it was just too much madness and as you say, incoherent.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) - IMDb (on Disney+)

What a... Ok, no words, give it a 5/10. And it still hints at a third sequel. No!

Contact (1997) - IMDb (on Google Play)

Still fresh, good questions of science and faith, the power play and upstaging between the bureaucrats and scientists, the extremist religious figure staging a terrorist attack. For a 1996 movie, this has all about things happening now. No surprise, based on a book by Carl Sagan.

I give it a 7/10.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (Disney+) 5/10

Pretty much going to reinforce what has been said above. It is a mess and I’m glad I didn’t pay to go and see it at the cinema. Maybe there is a bit of superhero fatigue creeping in, but I endured rather than enjoyed its 2hr8min running time. It wasn’t entertaining. It was always going to be a bit weird dealing with the multiverse, but this was almost incoherent. Made worse if you hadn’t watched the What If….. series on Disney+.

If this is emblematic of MCU phase 4, I have grave fears for Thor: Love and Thunder. I’m hoping Taika Waititi has saved that. Between Dr Strange and the mess that is Ms Marvel, I’m going to struggle to renew my Disney+ subscription.

Thought Belfast was worth an 8/10. Jude Hill very impressive.

Fire Island - 5/10 - Disney+

Set in the iconic Pines, Andrew Ahn's "Fire Island" is an unapologetic, modern-day rom-com showcasing a diverse, multicultural examination of queerness and romance. Inspired by the timeless pursuits from Jane Austen's classic "Pride and Prejudice," the story centers on two best friends (Joel Kim Booster and Bowen Yang) who set out to have a legendary summer adventure with the help of cheap rosé and their cadre of eclectic friends.

I struggled through this movie. Being in my late 60's and a gay man, this was way to much gay/queer stereo type for me. Though I did recognise all the stereo typical characters. Perhaps if I was still in my late teens early twenties maybe but some scenes were quite cringe inducing.

You also have to remember that Fire Island was a small Petri dish during the AIDS crisis of the eighties due to the hedonistic ways of gay men back during that era.

Not an educational movie for todays young coming of age and identity.

I missed it at the movies but caught it on Disney Plus today.

Wasn't expecting much but it wasn't too bad. I've been keeping away from spoilers so was surprised who the villain was. First half was better than the second half which was getting a bit tiresome. A few funny quips (again mostly in the first half). Not enough multiverse hopping I thought.

Both the What If Tv series and Loki tv series handled the multiverse better IMO.

Adam Sandler not being stupid and goofy.

Could get flogged for this.... but here we go :-)

Adam Sandler is actually a better actor than he's given credit for. I'm certainly not claiming he's regular oscar material either. He definitely doesn't help the opinions with his stereotypical characters which, lets be honest, dont have any depth to them.  However; when I watched Reign Over Me I was honestly blown away by his performance. Truly it left me thinking why he hasn't done more of these serious of roles.  A friend recommended it to me with the comment "dont let the fact its Adam Sandler put you off....you'll be surprised". They were 100% correct.

Haven't watched Hustle and maybe he's pretty average in that.

Reign Over Me is very good i thought.

Sandler is a talented actor. His comedic roles are very popular so he gets paid very well to do them. There’s really no reason not to do both and he’s been playing “serious roles” for 20 years.

MORBIUS (2022) 6/10

Having read several poor reviews, my expectations were quite low for this film. Surprisingly I enjoyed the first two thirds, but it then seemed to lose its way, and I was struggling to get through it.

Overall, not a bad movie, with good sound and visuals. I think that Jared Leto is a better actor than many pundits give him credit for. Pretty solid performance from him IMO.
