Holy Christmas Trees Batman. *Torrential* rain in Central Auckland this very minute for the last 10 minutes. Serious quantities of water!
Literally not a drop in Greenlane.

I've donated, and encourage all other Geekzoners who can afford it to do so as well.
Done, and Trade Me are doing this https://www.trademe.co.nz/stores/thekindnessstore
When power is unreliable and internet likewise, cash becomes king again.
It does seem that going totally cashless in a country prone to various natural disasters is not a thing.
Otherwise we will be bartering with Dairy owner to accept tradeable bottles of liquor or cigarettes.
Cash is probably handier.

Looking at the scenes from the Bay and the East Coast, there is just simply no way Auckland would have coped if the initial track of directly through or bouncing off the city had played out.
It just would have been chaos.
Probably better that didn't happen, but I'm gutted for Napier and the Bay that it's happened to them.
TBH the exact track becomes a bit irrelevant, the storm is so big that its impact is damaging 100s of kms away
Someone on Twitter posted the paths of Bola and Gabrielle, they are hugely different but both pummelled the east coast of the Nth Island...
exactly. its not the track thats all that important but rather the front(s) it swings over and where the moisture is in it.

Which neighbourhood? Completely missed us. Looking at the rain radar it is very small localised areas:
A couple of days ago that entire frame was blue all day.
theres been small storm cells coming across today. i see northland got hit by a few. however they are small and give very localised dumping of very heavy rain.
Poured down here (on the Shore) around lunchtime for about 10-20 minutes, then the sun came out and it was stinking hot again.

Sounds like proper summer has finally arrived then.
Yes, with less than a fortnight to go 😕

After watching the TV1 broadcast about the emergency at 5:30 today I had some sympathy with Mayor Brown. When the questions were called for from the "drongos" it was embarrassing. Talk about stupid questions.
Or am I being too critical?
duckDecoy: I just drove to and from Newmarket and went through that. Torrential is a mild description. Was crapping myself on the motorway, people gave up on lanes and just drove whereever - never seen that before

Didn't see it but in situations like this journalists are often obliged to ask the sorts of questions the public wants asked, not the ones they'd actually like to ask. So when you get a bunch of dumb questions it's often journalists channelling what Joe Bloggs on Facebook wants to know.

Reminds me of the GC
Geektastic: I feel slightly guilty. We had one chilly, wet day with some rain that was no worse than many winter days.
Weather wise and other wise, NZ has had a tough trip over the last few years. Everyone seems to get a turn. Weather wise, it will repeat
