CyaBro

I have seen Hurt Locker and it is a great movie in fact it was the first HD movie I saw on my newish LCD tv i bought myself recently. Good movie great picture quality and great surround sound just like a true home theatre system should be.

I would say all that was missing was the popcorn but i am not a fan of popcorn as gets stuck in my teeth so no loss however I can honestly say this is a very good movie. Tis also not a jobi would want to do (bomb disposal not my idea of a perfect job)

Terminator Salvation, good action scenes but nothing on the originals.
I did think the CGI was over done in some parts and rather fake in many, I recompiled the whole movie into a "5 minute action house" as I do with many of my so-so movies to remove all the padding.
(Short clip as a filetype container test, a very short segment of the edited footage)

Lethal Weapon 1, 80's classic.

A few other "festival" films.

TinyTim: The King of Kong: documentary about a couple of blokes attempting to break the 20+ year old record high score of Donkey Kong. A good watch even if you're not an arcade game fan (my wife enjoyed it).

Thanks for the recommendation, just watched it and was very entertaining. Some of those guys are classic! I'd give it a 7/10, great doco and editing. Very watchable.

Also watched the hurt locker yesterday. Would say it was pretty good, 7.5/10. I probably wouldn't watch it again but I didn't find myself looking at how long to go at any stage which is usually a good sign. Not too deep but enough to give you a few things to think about at the end.

We just watched The Time Traveler's Wife... Not bad but a bit slow to start. Although the wife didn't enjoy as much as she thought she would.

My girlfriend was studting for her European Studies exam over the weekend, so we watched a couple of very good German movies: The Edge of Heaven and The Lives of Others.  (I'd seen the second already but not the first.)

Both rather depressing, and at times stylized and melodramatic, as you'd expect from Germans, but still very highly recommended.

You should watch Mostly Martha (German, subtitles available). Way better than the copycat No Reservations with Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Went to Sydney this week... Watched The French Connection and Strictly Ballroom. Obviously The French Connection is a bit dated (1971) but still ok to watch. Dirty Harry, Bullit still get the kudos for "police" movies though.

Hurt Locker: I watched this last night in HD.  While I thought the movie itself was fine, the story was non-existent.  The characters were one dimensional and the tension points, while executed well, weren't anything new that I haven't seen before.  I did enjoy the movie while I was watching it though, which says something I guess.  It wasn't until afterward on reflection that it started to unravel for me.  I certainly don't think it's worthy of the best film oscar, which I think should go to District 9.  To be honest I got more out of the Generation Kill mini-series, or even the Occupation mini-series, than I did out of this movie.

Up in the Air:  I watched this last night as well.  It wasn't really for me.  I just can't see George Clooney in this "everyman" role anymore, he's been too stylised with his Ocean's roles and the like.  I guess I just couldn't relate to him in any way, but I expect a lot of people can given their jobs and experiences.  I found the plot to be fairly predicable, guessing a couple of major plot points well before they happened.  Still, worth a watch just to see what it's all about.

Book of Eli, far to predictable ending but good movie all the same. This movie reminded me of the PC game Fallout 3.

And an oldie - Stalingrad (1993)

I watched Taken starring Liam Neeson - about an American girl being kidnapped by criminals in Paris.

The theme is harrowing if you think about those trapped in that situation in the real world.

Fortunately, we didn't have our female exchange student with us as she doesn't cope with thrillers.

Yeah once you get past the "there is no way that is physically possible" sort of judgement stuff, it is a pretty entertaining movie.  Speaking of Jack Bauer I've just finished the first season of 24 finally after all the years it's been out.  I like it very much, starting the 2nd season asap :)  What a badass! Perhaps I need to start a "What TV Show Did You Just Watch...." thread too :)

I watched Fantastic Mr Fox on Blu-ray last night.  It was pretty cool, to be honest I went into it thinking I'd really dislike it.  But the humour was quite well timed, and acted, and the stop motion animation was second to none!  I recommend it to all ages but it's a great movie to watch as a family....there's slight humour that works on a couple of levels so you'll all get something out of it.
