Like Drag Me to Hell, any of the Raimi "horror" genre you can expect to be over the top silly gory amusing.  To some that like the genre anyway.

Handle9: Chef (2014)

Jon Faverau as a chef refinding his way personally and professionally. A stellar cast (Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, John Legiuzamo, Bobby Cannavale, Amy Sedaris, Oliver Platt and Robert Downey Junior) with a predictable plot but very well done and highly entertaining. The food part is very well done. It’s the sort of move that doesn’t get made any more which sucks.

8/10

I really enjoyed Chef when I watched it many years ago. I'm trying to tell myself that there are still movies made like it but you have to go searching for them. I just wish they were easier to find.

I just couldn't tell what genre it was going for. It wasn't over-the-top enough to be fun, it wasn't gory enough to be full-on body horror, and it wasn't suspenseful or scary in any way. It's been a while, but I remember the 2013 one having aspects that were genuinely unsettling - I can't say the same for this one.

Saw Guardians of the Galaxy 3 last night at the movies.

It was a great movie for the superhero genre.
Had a lot of action, plenty of laughs and a healthy amount of emotion.

It's sad that the best franchise in the genre is now over, but I really, really enjoyed this.

OPERATION FORTUNE: Ruse de Guerre (2023) - A Jason Statham action flick. I was thinking " A Jason Statham film with a low body count is quite unusual" but the last quarter completely restored my faith. 😁 Aubrey Plaza...wow! 😍 7/10

TETRIS (2023) - An enjoyable film about an American video game salesman, and the lengths he has to go to, to acquire the video and handheld rights to the popular falling blocks game from its Russian programmer. 7/10

GHOSTED (2023) - An Apple Original (as is Tetris) movie starring the beautiful Ana De Armas and Chris Evans. Watching the first 15 - 20 mins, I was settling down to what I thought was going to be a Rom-Com. I was taken happily by surprise when it suddenly turned into a fun action flick. Adrien Brody co-stars as the "bad guy". 7/10

Weird: The Al Yancovic Story 5.5/10

The first half of this movie was great but the 2nd half got a bit too silly for me. The were a good couple of laughs had.

Cocaine Bear 6/10

This had the Tucker and Dale vs Evil vibes but no where near as good. Some great gory scenes though.

COCAINE BEAR (2023) 6/10

I would call this film a B-Movie. You know, one of those films that are so bad, that they are good (if that makes sense). The fact that it was trying to cover several categories (Thriller, Horror and Comedy) derailed it a little, but it still appealed to my warped sense of humour 😁. I had several laugh-out-loud moments, when the film probably wasn't intending to be funny. Some questionable acting, gory scenes and ridiculous story; yes, definitely B-Movie material, and yet, somewhat entertaining.

Watched a couple of movies over the weekend - both good in their own right.

Tetris: I'd read that this was a cold war thriller which centred on the game, but I wasn't quite prepared for how completely gripped I would be by the story!
Maybe it's my age, as I grew up in the Cold War era, so understood the USSR/Iron Curtain aspect, but I loved this movie. 9/10

Solo - A Star Wars Story: Can't believe I haven't seen this until now. Really enjoyed this and think the casting was great! 8/10

Sisu - If you can turn off your brain and accept the ever increasing absurdity of the main character's indestructibility, then this is a thoroughly enjoyable action-filled and bloody escapade. And at just over 90min it doesn't outstay it's welcome. 7.5/10

I understand this movie was made with tongue firmly in cheek, ie it's a deliberate pisstake of the classic B-grade film similar to Snakes on a Plane.

Ghosted on Apple tv.

Formulaic and boring with uninspired action sequences. Plot was unoriginal with the role reversal being the only difference to many other movies in the same genre. Watching Chris Evans aka Captain American play a hapless farmer was a bit weird.

The first 20 minutes started off as a romcom and they should have stayed on that path and just made a romcom. At least the romcom fans would have enjoyed that.

3/10

John Wick Chapter 4.

I'm a JW fan. I also like Keanu Reeves and the supporting cast.
I struggled with this one. It's too long, seems to be just too much like the others and frankly, I got bored.

Sometimes I put a random film on, just to have something going in the background. The other night the tv was on Oz 7 and I let it run. The film was The Predator. This is not the Predator with Arnie, or even its successors. It is some kind of confused mish-mash that makes no sense at all, even within the parameters of these kinds of films. Admittedly I was only watching it in glimpses while I did other things, but it seemed to be a random collection of outtakes that were stitched together by a monkey with attention deficit issues. It jumped from one incoherent scene to the next, with lots of pointless violence that seemed to come out of nowhere for no fathomable reason. I could discern no plot at all.

I mention this only because this film was so spectacularly bad. It is actually probably one of the worst films ever made, at least one of the worst I have seen. It is so bad you can actually enjoy how bad it is. I don't know how it got made. I can only assume some cowboy company bought the the Predator rights to make a quick buck.

I wasn't really 'bored' but I didn't feel it was a patch on the others. I mean, no new plot, it's just 'better' more action.

'Admittedly I was only watching it in glimpses while I did other things' doesn't seem the best way to judge a movie esp if it's not a preferred genre :)

It actually has a rich tapestry of lore associated with it, detailed plot lines that do require some knowledge of the prior movies, and stellar acting by a cast of seasoned bankable action superstars. (and no, I have no idea which predator movie you are referring to). :)
