DonGould:Electric cars are far more friendly on energy conversion AIUI.

Yeah, too bad about the transmission losses in getting the electricity to your car and the additional generation and transmission infrastructure required to charge the car at peak times.

Petrol and diesel are still very clean and efficient fuels in a modern vehicle.

Its just the process of turning what comes out of the ground into what you can put into the clean and efficient (I disagree with efficient) is anything but clean. Look at the losses from in the ground to getting the car moving, petrol vs electric and electric wins massively.

The Authors name is Kunstler not Kuntsler. Sound it out, you'll notice the difference.

Perhaps it does based on some narrowly defined measure of efficiency but let's face it electric cars are not new, they've been around for over 100 years, there is a reason why petrol and diesel power the bulk of vehicles instead of electric power and that is that overall it is just a better solution.

$1.96/L when I put $20 in the other day. Drove down the road to motorway on ramp, and theres about 3 petrol stations there going for $1.89/L. Sooo not happy. But the rest will follow suit. Sucks because they're doing major railroad works in Auckland through most of summer break so have that to deal with now instead of driving everywhere.

I paid $2.08 for a litre of Mobil Synergy 8000 last weekend in Takapuna.  Even the 95 octane rated stuff is 1.98 or so a litre!  Infact it maybe higher, I haven't used 95 for a couple of weeks now!

Yeah, and the difference between diet and the passable 95 stuff has crept up too, people still quote the price for the useless stuff when giving prices which is really annoying.
