I am super annoyed at myself for failing to notice a pedestrian walking across the bond st bridge as I drove though a large pool of water, not particularly quickly, but enough to wet him/her. I consider myself a considerate driver, not sure how I missed their presence and or underestimated the amount of water I'd spread.

Maybe you just subconsciously knew it wasn't clear or safe to swerve around the water?

It wasn't safe to swerve around it, there were cars on the other side. I like driving through puddles and making a big splash (though I wasn't trying to make a big splash this time) but I would *never* intentionally soak someone by doing it. I am still feeling stink and if I could find them to apologise in person and offer to pay for dry cleaning, I would gladly do it. Unfortunately there was nowhere safe to stop nearby. I imagine right now they are dressing up a voodoo doll to look like me and sticking pins in it, fairly too.

I think the Flying Spaghetti Monster will forgive you for this. However I think I have paid for your sins this afternoon. Read on....

When I got home this afternoon and got out of my car I heard a hiss. Walk around the car and there's a roofing screw in the sidewall of my tire. That's bad - sidewall so not repairable. But I'm only getting started.

Get half way to nearest Bridgestone before remembering I have an old set of tyres at home. Turn around and go get them. Drive back to Bridgestone now covered in sweat, get there 10 mins before closing time.

Did I mention I'm supposed to be driving my daughter to Mt Ruapehu this evening?

Ok, the guy at Bridgestone says just as well I went back for the old tyres as the puncture is not repairable and they don't have a replacement in stock. He gets ready to take the wheel off and looks for the special VW anti theft socket.

Not there.

I had the types rotated at another Bridgetone shop a month ago so they must have used it and not put it back. Phone them up, they look but can't find it. Basically will have to cut the security nut off... No drive to the mountain tonight.

Faaaaaaaaaaaark!!!!

I did that once. You don't have to cut "the" security nut off, you have to get all 4 security nuts off - otherwise if you get a flat on the way to / from Ruapehu there's a 75% chance you'll be in much deeper crap than you are already.

Edit to say that's something small that really annoys me - those security nuts. Almost nobody wants your tyres/mags, I don't know a single person who's found their car left jacked up and sitting on crates, if it happens then it's probably because you parked in the dodgiest part of town, or left your expensive - and thus probably totally inappropriate - chariot parked at road end somewhere in the sticks while you went on a five day hike chasing deer with your blunderbus. They're a solution to a problem that doesn't exist for most people - and since the invention of the battery angle grinder and aliexpress nut cracker - an extremely poor solution for the few that they might have saved.

Indeed that's what the tyre guy said - just get rid of the security nuts and replace with standard.

Silver lining though. Rang up sister to see if i could borrow her spare car (Golf). Brother in law said take his RS6 for the weekend! Posting this from maccas in otorahanga...

The number of milk bottles that leak. Why is it so hard to make them sealed so that they do not leak milk in your fridge before you open them? The tops are supposed to be sealed with foil as a food safety measure, yet countless times when stored on their sides they will leak all over the shelves. If milk can get out, contamination can get in - ergo the packaging is not fit for purpose.

Hahaha. Auckland skiers LOL.
I'm going skiing tomorrow too. Sitting at home ATM, having a glass of wine. Southerly is blowing through right now 400mm of fresh powder in the morning. I bet after the trip in my son's non RS designated Toyota, I'm at the top of the mountain while you're still on the road - sitting behind a Fuso bus with dodgy brakes.

Sorry to disappoint but now ensconced in the RSC ski lodge. Ski in ski out at hut flat, top of first chair. No driving back and forth on the access road required.

Single source of truth has it's advantages re consistency and maintenance. Get annoyed with shop window having different times to shop website which is different again to Google. Usually resolved by calling shop. Occasional quadfecta with that source being different again.
