The personnel department, oops human resources department - has been renamed "people and wellbeing" presumably a doublespeak method to create an illusion that they actually give a %^$ when nothing has fundamentally changed,

Yup. George Orwell would be proud.

Latest thing I've noticed is that suddenly we have a bunch of "Partners" of various kinds, as if there's some kind of equality in the relationship. And a bunch of "Architects" doing work that was traditionally done by Analysts. "Analyst" has of course lost its perceived value, now that even the call centre log and flog guy is a "Customer Services Analyst". But wait, in lieu of a pay rise, we're now apparently "System Specialists" (although our job descriptions emphasize generalism).

We have a "People and Capability" team that's staffed by "HR Business Partners". The "Lead Systems Administrator" - who was not in the IT department - has now been renamed to something like "Business Solutions Analyst". Let's just make things more and more opaque...

Something that really annoys me is searching for a local business that sells something I want and getting hits from everywhere in the country (and even overseas!) except where I actually live in spite of specifying the location. No, I am not interested in driving hundreds of kilometers to Auckland and I don't want to pay to have it shipped. I just want to know what local businesses stock it! Apart from that, sites like Finda are the most useless wastes of space on the Internet!

Trademe sellers who list items that aren't in stock even 8 days later and don't advise you!

(And NO answer to your emails!)

(Obviously a change of ownership as they were previously a good supplier!)

I have always cringed at "area account manager" ... you mean "rep"?

The use of the term 'Lead' instead of the perfectly good word 'manager'.

Capability Lead sounds like a 18th century landscape designer.

The use of the word Manager when there is no management in the role.

Also that.

As my wife was fond of observing, "Every man and his dog is a 'manager' in NZ businesses - even when they are not responsible for money or people!"

Titles are pretty useless ... except when you're looking for your next job.

Human Resources is too lazy to read your CV beyond your previous title to see if it's an exact match to the current title.

God forbid you're were a "Senior DBA" in one position and they are hiring a "System Engineer - SQL", even if your skills are an exact match.

They could give me the title "Mangy McManager Face" if the pay's right.

On a related note, if you search google for certain business names or categories, it can bring up yellow pages results of businesses that I know closed down years ago. Not very impressive.

Here's an example of how dumb the yellow pages are.

If I google video stores palmerston north, one of the results it gives is Video Ezy in Carterton.

Video Ezy hasn't existed in NZ for about a year. Yellow Pages certainly aren't getting any money from them to publish listings any more.

https://yellow.co.nz/palmerston-north-area/video-ezy

Your result may vary depending on where you're located.

The current printed Yellow Pages phone book would return better results as it wouldn't show either businesses in an area you didn't ask for, nor would it show businesses that no longer exist.

Today's new peeve: Buses with a small luggage rack incapable of taking a larger load than a laptop bag...on a double-decker bus, no less!

Tried to get my scooter on the bus a few times recently, but the new NX fleet of buses seems to be varied and many of them have a short luggage rack that won't accommodate a folded scooter or anything of decent dimensions - leaving me to try and wrangle a quite ungainly piece of equipment under a seat/in front of a seat/laying in the middle of an aisle/leaning up against my legs and feet/otherwise in the way.

It baffles me that the public transport system is so inadequate for large numbers of commuters now - buses are packed, standing room only quite often and several passengers attempting to get e-scooters or similar on, to do the responsible thing and leave the car at home for the last mile journey. frustrating, uncomfortable and generally riling for the passive-aggressive types who don't like you having a scooter on the bus in the first place.

My 2005 24" Dell 1080 monitor just gave up the ghost!

This beast has earned me a lot of money!!  Sad day.

Monitors really are the best value for money of any PC peripheral!
