Bahaha they need to add that stuff to the security spray at banks or imagine if it could be applied to cars that drive off at service stations ... so many possibilities

Geektastic:

Correct. The idea of customer service appears to run a very distant second to not showing flexibility and initiative.

Computer says no....

There is a huge issue ordering at this time of year in that if it clears customs after you close for the break, that it will sit there incurring huge costs till it can be delivered in the new year. Most NZ retailers are not set up for dropshipping and even the mention of that to them will freak them out because they are still stuck in the 1980s or earlier for systems.

Its almost like the idea of thousands of small places running their own warehousing systems with minimal stock and terrible IT infrastructure trying to offer decent service is a bad one, but the idea of amazon coming along and trampling them by doing things properly isnt enough to motivate small places into either growing to the size that they can operate properly, or even to just stop sucking so much. Their idea of good customer service is just answering the phone quickly and pleasently and a proper CRM system is just a crazy idea because betty in sales can remember all the customer details because they only have a few 100 of them.

Geektastic:

Try Volvo Life Paint.

You get it at Volvo dealers. It's a clear spray coat that you can't see in daylight but which lights up like a Christmas tree in car headlights.

Thanks for the tip! I'll look in to that if the cheap glass beads I ordered from AliExpress don't work well enough for me.

EDIT: It appears it only lasts about a week and washes off... not as durable as I'll need for my application.

Try coating it with varnish after it's dried?

Usually that will destroy the reflective properties.

Have you looked at the CRC Reflect system?  Mega stocks it.  Two part spray can.  Reflective base coat then either yellow or red over the top.  Not sure how long it'll last outdoors, but I have it on a couple of stripes in my garage for lining up the cars at night when reversing in.  Reverse lights light it up really well.

That looks like it might be easier than trying to coat wet paint in glass balls. They also have a clear top coat.

TBH, the reason I was looking for powder coating solutions is it's a lot less messy than solvent-based paint (and I have the equipment already). Something in a can is a good compromise.

Possibly hard to get, but proper road marking paint (not the white Dulux they seem to use round these parts!) Shines like a beacon.

Also you could get trailer reflectors and screw them to the fence?

Something that annoys me is when you buy something that should be simple to design so its really useful, and its actually been designed in a way that makes it not much more use than one 20% of the price.

Im talking about the wifi sensor light that I have been waiting for Bunnings to get into stock. Its like they didnt think "how would wifi make this useful" and instead thought "whats the least we can do to make this have wifi in it". Ffffffff. Will return the other 2 tomorrow. One I have partially gutted to see what they had done in it. Answer is not much.

People talking about the end of the decade... Which is not until the end of 2020.

A decade is simply a period of ten years. It's just easier to generalise when there is an increment in 10, so most people refer to the '90s for example.

'00s music sucks.

The decade starts at *1 as the century starts at **1.

Really?

a period of ten years, especially a period such as 2010 to 2019

a period of ten years beginning with a year whose last digit is zero

1.1A period of ten years beginning with a year ending in 0.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decade:

  • The most common way to refer to decades is to group years based on their shared tens digit, such as the nineteen-sixties (1960s) referring to the period from 1960 to 1969.[3][4] This is the definition generally used on Wikipedia. Sometimes, only the tens part is mentioned (60s or sixties), although this may leave it uncertain which century is meant.
  • An ordinal decade in the Anno Domini[a] year numbering system is a period from a year which ends on the digit 1 to the following year which is a multiple of ten; for example, the period from 1961 to 1970 was the 7th decade of the 20th century (or the 197th decade), and the period from 2001 to 2010 was the 1st decade of the 21st century (or the 201st decade).[5]

But wait https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Decade#Closely_related_RFC_on_%22Century%22_talk_page:

0 to 9 is completely false. We start by counting with 1 and end with 10. Furthermore, there is no year zero in the calendar. The first decade AD began with the year 1, and therefore every consecutive decade, century and millennium all began and will forever begin with a year 1. Very simple.

Wow.

"A" decade is a period of ten years. "The" 202nd decade (the one we are in) runs from 2011-2020.

An infinite number of decades have started and ended since this discussion began.

The Gregorian Calendar was introduced in 1582 with an error of around 0.0003 days compared to 0.0075 days for the Julian Calendar. Ten days were skipped to compensate for this, but 1582 * 0.0075 is closer to 12, so I guess it was wrong from the start.

With all the changes and errors, 00:00 January 1 2021 on the Gregorian Calendar is only an approximation of the start of the next decade.
