sdav: Ok cool - I went and checked now I'm on a PC and the sizes are:

Original
Parcel weight 1.2kg
Parcel dimensions 32cm x 20cm x 10cm
Volumetric weight 1.28kg

After repacking
After repacking
Parcel weight 1.05kg
Parcel dimensions 19.5cm x 11cm x 6.5cm
Volumetric weight 0.28kg

Maybe I'm getting something extra!

Or it's a massive pack of cards! The funny thing, by my calculations, is that the repacking didn't really save you anything. They charge by 500g increments, so 1.05kg (actual weight) is the same as 1.28kg (volumetric weight) as far as their shipping charges go. Either way, should be $26.75. Don't they charge $4.50 for repacking? They do say "We will only repack your parcel if the money you will save on the international postage exceeds the repacking fee. Items will not be removed from the manufacturer's packaging." so maybe I've got the charges wrong...

Postage was: $26.75

lol it says "You have saved NZD-$4.50 in international postage due to repacking " - I take that to mean they have repacked it and not saved me anything and because of the $4.50 fee it seems a little pointless! Why would they repack if they cant save me money!

Might email them to check.

So I've haven't used Youshop in the past months, so they can repack things for you now? That is quite an impressive difference 1.28kg to 0.28kg. Do they charge for this service?

I gotta be honest I did not look in to it before using the service so always assumed they just forwarded the parcel. What I want to know is how they decide to re-pack something. Surely they don't open every parcel to see if they can save weight?

They didn't ask either, they just repacked it and charged me $4.50 saying they saved me -$4.50 (which appears to be the repacking fee and nil saving!). Bazzer above posted that "We will only repack your parcel if the money you will save on the international postage exceeds the repacking fee. Items will not be removed from the manufacturer's packaging." It's got me all confused how they saved 1kg then.

I'm checking this out with them.

Cool, thanks sdav would be nice to have clarification. I would've thought it would be something we would request ourselves rather than up to their judgement.

I think generally they only do it to save you money on international postage (if it would be more than their repacking fee) but in my case it seems to have added $4.50 when not really needed. But yeah, will seek clarification first before assuming.

It's the volumetric weight, i.e. w x h x d / 5000.

So originally, 32*20*10/5000 = 1.28kg. Afterwards 19.5*11*6.5/5000 = 0.28kg. However, they'll charge the actual weight (1.05kg) if it's above the volumetric weight so they must've just removed some of the packaging.

BTW, $26.75 is the correct shipping charge regardless of what they did to it, i.e. 3 x $4.75 (per 500g) + $12.50 = $26.75.

Yeah $26.75 is the right amount but it still seems like they have re packed it, not saving me any money and then charged me for the re packing lol

Thought I'd just sign up to thank you guys for this post, was a bit iffy about using Youshop but after reading most of these posts I bit the bullet and placed my amazon order on thursday. arrived at youshop warehouse at 3am this morning NZtime, Just got the email now to pay for it and saw this so I was really happy

This parcel has been repacked.

Original 31cm x 41cm x 15cm  Parcel weight 3.8kg Volumetric weight 3.81kg

After repacking 40cm x 28cm x 8cm Parcel weight 1.5kg  Volumetric weight 1.79kg

You have saved NZD$14.50 in international postage due to repacking
Thats 2.3KG of wasted weight just in the packaging Jebus
Will be interesting to see how long it takes to get it here. Ordered Skylanders Swapforce Dark Edition from amazon for my sons birthday as Mightyape couldn't get it in for me. Ended up costing the exact amount Mightyape would have charged me had they been able to get it

I hope that's the PS3 edition, as the 360 version will almost certainly be region locked.

Ha sweet - at least you got a saving! I have found the service fine so far except for my little glitch which is being sorted out by them.
