Tdgeek: All arguments point to alcohol abuse, intoxication etc. Which as already highlighted does not happen in licence restaurants.

It does happen in licenced restaurants and the staff/licencee has to deal with that. Wendys will be no different. Reluctant to comment as I don't have an opinion really about this topic but if you made a decision only on that basis of thinking licenced restaurants never have to deal with this issue then you would be wrong.

Alcohol usage in NZ is harmful, and becoming increasingly so.

The crimes typically attributed to alcohol (assault, disorder, property damage) are flat or declining in NZ (according to the latest police collated crime stats).

And of course attributing crime/harm to alcohol quickly becomes subject to an approach of strict liability.

If I am assaulted by sober people, while drunk - is that an alcohol related crime?

If I am struck by lighting while drinking beer is that an 'alcohol related' injury?

There is point at which it becomes hysteria.

You never read about 'vegetable related' injuries but I've gone to A&E twice as a result of hurriedly slicing vegetables for a stir fry while stone cold sober. Yet the sale of woks, vegetables and vegetable knives is unrestricted ...

The problem in NZ is quantity (beers/drinks per hour/minute), not amount of stores/restaurants that stock the stuff.

There is an issue, does it affect 90% of kids, I severely doubt it. Thats how some of these posts come across.

It only takes 10% to create an enormous problem for the other 90%, who have to clean up the mess. I am neither pro nor anti, just still wondering why it is such a problem here, and not some other places.

Point taken, but talk numbers. Some here have stated they never see that in restaurants, where the intention is to eat, not drink. Or pubs, clubs, where the intention is to drink. I cannot ever recall hearing about brawls and disorderly behaviour in an eating place, nor have seen it. Alcohol in that environment is a very very side issue of the experience.

Actually, I kind of would be inclined to agree with that. I don't see many fights breaking out at Wendy's.

Fighting and brawling is one thing and it is not the issue being raised here.

Very small things like behaviour, repeated loud conversational swearing, loud sexual references, things you don't want your kids exposed to is another thing. You will see this in restaurants with drinking from time to time and the licencee/staff will deal with that and or patrons at the next table will remind that children are present etc.

Frequency is low but it does happen and is in the 'not nice' category rather than anything more serious. Ie; will never appear in police reports or licencee reporting.

Once again I don't have a strong personal opinion on this licence application. It is likely to sink or swim based on police assement of the risks for the location but I could see why OP will not want the potential of the kids trip to wendys being ruined by some alcohol related boisterous behaviour from other patrons.
