A lot of people use DSLRs as video cameras. If you look at some of the prosumer models the only real significant development on them in the last five years or so has been to make them better camcorders.

Bluetooth on my new electric toothbrush? Why?

Please just remove that garbage and reduce the price.

That is what I say about video functionality on my stills cameras. Why? I do not want it or to pay for it. Most people are useless videographers anyway and their phones would be more than adequate. If a professional want to use a MILC for video, they end up spending a fortune to turn it from a still camera form factor into a video rig - so they may as well just buy a camcorder!

Given that most people are useless photographers as well it's hardly a disqualifying reason to have video.

The camera companies are in deep enough without removing another revenue stream.

It is your annoyance though so enjoy 😉

I said the same when cameras started appearing on cellphones.       Ridiculous notion - what's wrong with a digital camera? :P

I assume its so that an app can nag you if you dont clean them. I know a few people that need that technology.

A lot of people do. Very badly. They are wasting their time because they lack the skill and talent and their phones would be better.

Those that use them professionally end up adding so much rigging (at great cost) that effectively they have bought a sensor in a box and then attached a whole bunch of stuff to do what they needed it to do because it was inadequately designed for their purpose - unlike a proper camcorder...

I rarely use the camera on my phone except to take pictures of notices I want to remember etc. so I would be one who would agree with that!

I'm about 50/50 with stills versus photos. Aside from the the cameras themselves, I haven't spent tonnes on improving the video, I bought a mic and ND filter for my A6600 but that's it. The mic was to cut down on wind noise more than anything. I really only video my friends playing golf. I use GoPros on my mountainbike.

But I like taking photos too. So I'm not sure what I would've done with a camcorder.

Just bought a 2020 model Samsung TV  -- the user interface is terrible.   Feels 10 years old, sluggish, and badly designed.

Samsung have a smartphone app, smartthings, to remotely control the tv.  When you first use the tv , you have to setup an account just to get it going.  Sweet , should be easy, just use the on screen keyboard on the app right?  But, the app onscreen keyboard only has numbers!!! How can I enter my email address which has letters? Can't. Stupid stupid stupid!

Gets worse, I bought the samsung 'frame' tv -- but, you have to also make an account to show artwork when the tv is off. Using the remote to sign-up for this is really bad, so I thought I'd just use Chrome and do it online.   But, they don't even allow that.  They force you to use the app.

Why can't asian companies do good UI's?  Sony excepted -- their interfaces are a little more polished.

A few years back China said they were developing an alternative to windows -- did that ever happen?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Well, it had to happen!

Another Win10 Update = YET ANOTHER RE ORDER of Audio Devices!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY! Only one update this year has not re-ordered them!

Makes command line selection of devices like picking next weeks Lotto numbers!

(You feel like the odds of a reboot working as intended (By you - NOT Microsoft!) are worse than winning a prize in Lotto!)

(Am I annoyed - Hell YES!)

Camera cages aren't that expensive if you go for non-flashy-name-brand gear, and it's much cheaper than buying an HD video camera. It's a weird sideways entry into the market, filmmakers realised that using a standard DSLR with its off-the-shelf sensor was cheaper than paying a fortune for a video camera with some exotic sensor that produced more or less the same results, thus the emerging market for DSLRs with camcorder features and camera cages. For example you can set yourself up with a complete camera cage and necessary attachments for an existing DSLR for the price of a single Red One camera battery. That's not a typo, that's one camera battery.

Today's Windows grizzle: I have two windows on top of each other. I attempt to click an item in the topmost window. The click falls right through that window and acts as if I'd clicked the window underneath it. 35 years and MS hasn't perfected Windows' windowing system yet...
